 - Tumbledrop, Starfruit Games, iPhone, iPod Touch, Puzzler
If there's one game genre that truly belongs on the iPhone / iPod Touch, it's the physics-based puzzler. I've got serious OCD when it comes to these games and seem to spend an inordinate amount of time hunting down new ones on the iTunes store. So when you find a gem amongst the dross, it's extremely rewarding.

Tumbedrop from Starfruit Games might not exactly stretch the boundaries of originality, in fact we've seen plenty of drop-puzzlers before. But it's so slickly executed and beautifully put together, and a pleasure to play.

The idea is simple. You have to rescue a pink star from a watery grave. The star sits atop a stack of blocks of various shapes and sizes, and each time you remove a block you succumb your hapless star to the forces of gravity, weight shifts and various other chaotic elements that could pitch it straight into the water surrounding each level's goal.

Removing enough blocks to drop your star to safety is the main aim, though naturally each level comes with its own unique challenges. In some cases, it's down to the shape of the blocks your star is resting on. Taking the wrong block out can shift the entire pile and with your star's natural affinity for tumbling on its points, you have to work quickly to undo a wrong move.

Blocks can't be removed in quick succession, a timer will turn a block a darker shade until your next move is allowed - adding to the challenge substantially.

Like most of the best puzzlers, it's an extremely simple concept turned into an addictive challenge with some clever level design and plenty of fiendish extras to take into account (like the fact that some level goals are on pivots, while some rely on you being able to make your star tumble to either side of a central area without over-cooking it and falling too far).

Best of all, there's a lite version as well as the full product so you can have a tangy taste of what's on offer before you splash your cash around.

Here's a game trailer and links to the two versions:
