Gameloft seems to be churning games out like nobody's business these days, with every current popular license and genre ripe for the picking. That's not say its games aren't any good mind you, it's just that with the imminent release of Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus, the developer/publisher is as close to copying and pasting its popular rivals as is physically possible.

Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus is the follow up to Modern Combat: Sandstorm and this time around features upto 10 player multiplayer as well as gryoscope controls for those of you with an iPhone 4.

The trailer below bears more than a passing resemblance to Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with an ice-based level that's very similar looking to the Evasion level on special ops mode. There's also a scene where you reach to grab the hand of a falling comrade, which is again very reminiscent of the Cliffhanger level from the single player of MW2. The back-stabbing mechanic of multiplayer also seems more than just a coincidental homage, but still, they say copying is the sincerest form of flattery, in which case Infinity Ward should be blushing with coy embarassment.

With capture the flag and team deathmatch modes it's the closest you're going to get to a 'proper' multiplayer FPS on the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch but as ever, concerns remain over just how intuitive, responsive, accurate and actually playable the controls are.

However, it's impressive looking all the less, but come on Gameloft, how about something original for a change? The game is due for release in early October.
