Black Ops showing the strain as multiplayer verges on the unplayable

 - Treyarch, Activision, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Server Strain, Online Multiplayer

After a week in which Activision and Treyarch secured the position of developing and publishing the best selling game of all time, with over 5 million copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops sold in the first day alone, it's becoming apparent that the weight of such a ferocious community is causing the game's performance online to suffer considerably.

For some inexplicable reason, wager matches are consistently extremely difficult to get into with only Team Deathmatch and Domination among those modes reliably playable. Far too often parties get broken up or gamers just don't get into games at all.

There're also increasing reports of a recurrence of the dreaded unlimited care package glitch that plagued Modern Warfare's 2 early days. Though thanks to the Theatre mode included in Black Ops which allows you to render footage from any of your recent games from the perspective of any player, it shouldn't take long for Treyarch to patch these bugs out. The developer is also promising to wield the ban hammer in the direction of anyone caught abusing the game.

On a final note, check out the following video of a phenomenally lucky Tomahawk kill. This is exactly what Theatre mode was created for.
