There's a lesson to be learned here Sony so pay heed. The world is not ready for diskless gaming, certainly not for dedicated gaming devices at least. Sales of the PSP Go, Sony's rather sexy and ultra-compact PSP variant have reached an all time low, to the point where the company has now made yet another price reduction on the system.

Partially to blame is the method of actually getting your games onto the thing. With no disks, PSPgo is fed entirely through the Playstation Store which is fine and dandy if you're hooked up to a phat internet pipe, but as much use as tits on a fish if you're not.

Rumours about the Playstation Portable 2 included the rather worrying news that it too might be a digital-download-only console as Sony has publicly decided not to continue with the UMD format for the new console. Unless they're cooking up something else proprietary to run in the PSP2, what will it use instead? Compact sawn-off blu rays? Now that would be nice.

Either way though, if you bide your time you'll be able to pick up a PSP go for less than the price of an original PSP soon. Keep watching the bargain bins
