It's been grinding its way round the rumour mill for ages, but it looks like the Halo HD remake is actually happening at last.

Joystiq have spilled the beans on the project, due in November. Saber Interactive, the studio previously responsible for Inversion and Timeshift is working on the game, retooling the graphics and engine but essentially keeping the core game the same.

Halo HD won't use the fantastic Halo: Reach engine alas, a bit of a shame.

Expect the internet to go Halol mad in Nov.

(pic: Yes I know that's the Macworld Halo but I still secretly wish it'd ended up on Macs first so nyaaaah!)

Mmm... around the time of Halo 3, I thought it would be great to get a Halo 1 remake done in that engine. Now that it's happening, and Bungie aren't doing it themselves, and everything else... I'm sceptical.

I think it makes sense from a development perspective to do a remake - it means they can focus on getting the tools and engine in place without having to worry about implementing any new gameplay, which simplifies the development process considerably. And a shinier version of the original will surely go down well with fans (apart from those who will inevitably - and somewhat obviously - complain that it's the same as the original game).

I'm meh about this too but I'd love the chance to play the very last level again in HD. I think it was the only bit of the whole game I enjoyed.

Not exactly relishing the thought of tackling the flood again. Just got used to not having to bother with the buggers!

Silent Cartographer still brings the hairs up on the back of my neck. A lovely polished version of that would be very nice indeed.

Revisiting The Library and the flood dampens the ardour somewhat.
