A convicted paedophile has launched legal action in the Australian Supreme Court in order to be allowed access to his Xbox 360 and games while in prison serving a 7 year sentence for assuming the alias of a 14-year old boy in order to groom kids over the internet.

Bryan Cooper 25 requests that the state provide and pay for "full medical and dental treatment required by doctors and specialists of his choosing" which he argues includes full access to his Xbox 360, games, DVDs, CDs and MP3s in order to help facilitate his rehabilitation.

Cooper was described by a judge as "sheer filth" after his recent trial during which it was revealed that he pretended to be a teenage boy and used MSN Messenger to discuss sex acts with minors.

Crime Victims' Support Association president Noel McNamara said Cooper was in jail by self-invitation.

"He must think he's living in a five-star hotel, making all those demands"

The Herald Sun reports that:

His bid to get his Xbox in his cell goes to court next month. He seeks the orders under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Human Rights and Corrections Act.

The Corrections Act gives prisoners the right to reasonable medical care and treatment necessary for the preservation of health including, with the approval of the principal medical officer, but at the prisoner's expense, a private registered medical practitioner, physiotherapist or chiropractor chosen by the prisoner.
