Syndicate-bombs-at-retail--SSX-a-slightly-more-successful-reboot-for-EA Syndicate bombs at retail, SSX a slightly more successful reboot for EA

EA's Labels President Frank Gibeau took a cookie cutter to the recently published NPD sales figures for the last few months, fessing up that EA's Syndicate reboot bombed like a bomb shaped thing.

"It didn't work out for us. We took a gamble on it, it didn't pay off" said Gibeau, failing to recognise that it might've had something to do with Syndicate being abso-fucking-lutely unlike its predecessors.

SSX, however, fared much better with Gibeau describing it as "a very successful relaunch" - successful enough to ensure we'll see more from the SSX series (though, ffs, just TAKE A LOOK AT TRICKY BEFORE YOU GO AGAIN WON'T YOU, YOU GIMPS!)

All in all, not exactly a blistering year so far for EA. Can't wait to hear how monetizing Battlefield works out for 'em.

Err, are you sure you don't mean "we tried to play it safe by turning it into an FPS"?

Yeah not exactly much of a gamble was it. In the same article they worryingly mention that they're still trawling through EA's back catalogue of IPs for more stuff to reboot. I can't quite picture Magic Carpet or Theme Hospital as brainless neo-noir shooters somehow.

EA seriously did get what they deserved with Syndicate, though most people who took a chance on it and could distance themselves from it being anything to do with the original seemed to actually like it a lot.

Syndicate is a fantastic co-op shooter. Mug-punters playing ti safe with the usual two. Again. And now you're paying through the bloody nose for CoD and B3.

Just feels like the gaming world is constantly shrinking. Punters don't want creativity any more.

I'm all for creativity, which is why this game probably should never have been called 'Syndicate' - EA took a gamble on slapping a name they owned on a game that had next-to-bugger-all in common with its ancestor and it blew up in their faces.

But I agree with the sentiment that the industry is so broken around BF / COD now that it thinks people are actually stupid enough to pay extra to play games that are consistently ending up more and more strip-mined for content. The worst thing is, in most cases, they are stupid enough.

I did enjoy Syndicate. Solid gameplay with some excellent ideas.

I've never even heard of Syndicate

They gambled on possibly ruining perfectly good IP, and lost.

Every SSX other than Tricky has been a soul less experience for me, reliant on grinding and repetitiveness.

Bring back Tricky or stick the series on sale to ruin it's IP and nuke it from orbit (it's the EA way!).
