Oh my. If there's one company we've been champing at the bit to see more from it's PlayDead. The swedish developers behing the sublime Limbo, they've been very quiet up until now. But they've broken the silence with a few scant details about Limbo's successor and also published a rather tantalising teaser image from their next game.

Codenamed 'Limbo 2' but not described necessarily as a direct sequel to Limbo, all you can see in the screenshot is an eerily familiar looking boy dragging something in a dark rain-soaked landscape. Not picked out purely in shadow this time, but looking superbly lit.

PlayDead describes the premise as "A young boy's struggle to confront and defeat the forces of evil, through questionable experiments on human bodies". The other key detail in the hastily translated detail sheet about the game is that it's again a 2D platformer, taking place in a 3D world, and will be 'in colour' though as you can see from the screenshots, thankfully not too much colour.

It's given me the horn, big time.

PlayDead received $1,000,000 from the Swedish government to continue operating and to continue work on Limbo's successor. Imagine our government doing that for brit development studios? No, you can't can you.

Day one purchase without a shadow of a doubt.

Loved Limbo, but the sequel would need to show some real evolution to entice me to buy it.

From the sound of it, they've strayed into even more disturbing territory. Mutilating bodies and adapting them to survive? Ohhhkay! The visual look is hot though, love that.

I don't think I want to see a spider in that new engine! Excited about this though.

Those damned spiders. PlayDead are one indie developer that I hope never gets hoovered up by a big publisher. Can you imagine what EA would do to this if they got hold of it? "Hey we love the muted lighting and the faceless characters but wouldn't it be even more awesome if he had a gun, some power armour perhaps, a buzz cut?"
