I know what you're thinking about. You're thinking about the girl in the red skirt. So you should be.

Here at AATG, when games as cafe-chic and slick as "The Button Affair" drop through our feed chutes, we sit up and take notice. Then we start clamouring about them from the rooftops. So consider me standing on a nearby rooftop, shaking my fist at you telling you to gird your download tubes in anticipation of this game.

Recently premiered at The Darklight Festival, a heaving sweating mass of sex dished up as an independent gaming fest, The Button Affair: Theft for Infamy (to give it the proper title) knocks your eyes out with its visual style straight out of the blocks, then makes sweet love to your aural passages with some superb 60s style 'dicing with death' music that wouldn't sound out of place slapped over the top of Michael Caine as Harry Palmer lazily lighting a cigarette.

The game itself splices together puzzle solving with reaction-time stuff that is as tough as old boots and strictly old skool (which is a great match for the visuals). It feels a bit like a sexy cross between Canabalt and (oddly) Another World but thrown headlong into a swirling psychotropic landscape of spies, crime bosses and beautiful women throwing themselves at you headlong (a bit like any other day at AATG Towers then. Well, when Chris is around at least!) The lead protagonist, one Enzio Gabriel - master thief, voyeur, lascivious man about town and consumer of the sharpest suits in gaming, is an interesting lead - there really aren't enough tuxedos in games.

I got to play around with the August build for the Mac but a PC version is in the works and aside from needing to rewire my synapses and creaking old digits to actually get somewhere with the game, it's as slick as an Italian's eyebrows.

You can subscribe to the Button Affair RSS feed for updates on the game but so far it's looking as neat and innovative as the previous outing from this mysterious collective, "The Cat That Got The Cream".

As soon as the demo drops for public consumption, we'll let you know. If you like neat and innovative games wrapped up in absolutely gorgeous graphics, with sumptuous accompanying vibes then this will be right up your alley.

Wish I could link to a demo that everyone could have a play with but I think they'd get slightly annoyed if I did. Should be out for a public demo very soon though - and when it is, grab it!

Had a bit more of a play last night, and a bit more contact with the developers who are happy for you lot to have a look at the demo if you want. Email me and I'll give you the dropbox location so you can grab it on PC or Mac.

It plays like an insane mix of Canabalt and Another World - really quick reactions and trial / fail stuff but so stylishly done with some brilliant death animations that it really feels nice and fresh. The scene setting stuff is truly brilliant. I would give my left nut to see someone do a proper Another World style game with this type of setting.
