Apart from the Tap Tap games, the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad seem to be a bit lacking when it comes to decent rhythm action titles. There are some out there, but nothing's quite defined the genre for the touch screen yet.

Or has it? Here's Pulse, a stylish and extremely cool looking game for iOS from the makers of sublime ambient and elegant app Auditorium.

All the basics of rhythm action are in there but wrapped up in such an artistic shell that you have to ask yourself "are you actually cool enough to be allowed to play this game?"

There's very little visual feedback on what to do at first. Players must feel their way, and find out what works and what doesn't by experimenting.

Pulse has only 8 tracks to get you started, but expansions are planned so if you like the game enough to ensure it sells well, more could be in the pipeline.

As it stands though, for a measly £2.99 on iPad it could well end up becoming something of an obsession.

Go check it out. But only if you wear DCs, pilot aviators and a shirt woven from the tear ducts of tiny tiny baby larks.

You know what iOS needs? A Rhythm Tengoku Gold game.
