Bloody hell, I got a plummeting sense in my stomach just watching that. Brilliant.

Of course someone else will now try that and probably die.

Something a little less dangerous to do on the escalator...

FAIL
WINNAR - fails on consecutive attempt though.

If you've ever been on it, it is one looooong escalator. I think it's about a 2 minute standing ride. The skier does it in less than 10 seconds.

Yeah I've been down angel. It made me nervous first time, couldn't believe how far down it is.

What made me laugh (or cringe in terror) was that he went DOWN the UP escalator. If someone had stepped on at the bottom, there's no way he would've been able to avoid 'em. Unless the stooge at the bottom was there stopping people.

On second thought, it's probably closer to a minute to ride it at approx 1 m/s.

He'd have been at the bottom a bit quicker had he taken the down chute :D

He was probably going about 30mph at the bottom.

Strangely, it didn't really seem that fast. Compared to skiiing on snow - I guess the metal steps slow the skis down quite a bit.
Still pretty crazy though!

I remember plans we had at uni to ski down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh being towed by a car. Not that we ever did it of course.

The stone sets are probably a lot more slippery than tarmac or asphalt but the Royal Mile isn't exactly the best surface.

He probably going slower than 30mph then, must have hit the max velocity due to friction quite quickly though.

I hope those were cheap skis. I doubt the teeth of the steps were kind to them.

I love this: "The film's producer said other people were not in danger as friends of the stuntman, a Norwegian national, had warned passengers away." I bet the commuters were well chuffed about that. :D

More chuffed than they would have been if they got on the escalator with a moron on skis heading towards them... ;-)

True, although it can't have been that much of a delay anyway really can it for them? Ok, so London commuters have a certain reputation but still.

I am always scared that someone's heavy suitcase comes crashing down, mowing people down.

It was definitely pub talk. We considered dripping water out of the back of the car somehow to reduce friction. Or waiting for a frosty night....

An good friend of mines father fell down that exact escalator whilst drunk.

From top to bottom. Made a complete mess of his face.

Tell me about it. I get moaned at whenever I take a case on the escalators, never mind skiiing down them.

Heh, I had to take a Steel Battalion down those very escalators. Managed to prop it on the moving handrail thankfully.

So true. You weren't standing on the left on the escalator were you? It's the ultimate crime on the underground. ;)

Was trying to find the footage of some posh wanker sliding down the centre of one of the underground station escalators. It's a classic. He runs smack into one of those weird little divider things they put on there just to stop you doing exactly that, and sorta pitches over forwards and ends up practically snowballing it down the rest. It's ace. Can't find it though!!

I'm always disapointed when one of these 'xtreme stunts' doesn't end in bloodshed and at least one bone sticking out.

Heh, I've made that mistake once and only once. Even then people didn't say "excuse me" or anything, they just stood behind me and either tutted, signed or went "ARRGHH". Go fuck yourselves, politeness doesn't physically hurt.

Standing behind me and screaming is liable to result in pain though.
