..but I would just like to invite anyone who has ever typed 'prolly' instead of 'probably' to kill themselves now before I track them down myself and prevent them from ever having children.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. If anyone's wondering the most recent inspiration for this outburst appeared at the other place, not here :)

There are plenty of things worth getting annoyed at in the world without having to get irrate over use of the "word" prolly.

Now if you said people who spell definitely either definately or definetely, I would have agreed with you.

/agrees with WOPR

I mean, when I use prolly it's just cos I'm being lazy. Bliddy is the same number of letters as bloody, so I can only conclude that it's either an attempt to be different or funny.

Neither works.

I'm trying mate, honest. That comparison to Prince Phillip did the trick nicely.

You used a smilie but complained about "prolly"? You cant complain about one internet custom then use another!

I actually use prolly away from the keyboard these days anyway, at least it sounds like a proper word. No worse than saying "theres" rather than "there is" really.

Minimum effort, maximum results.

Why the hell not?

Anyway I guess it's just down to context and association. 'Prolly' just really gets on my tits for some reason, and not because I think it's redundant cos (see what I did there?) I guess it can be justified, but rather the way it sounds in my head and the image it conjures of the person who's saying it.

Did you see that 'pstriple' youtube video? Yep, that just about sums up what I see in my head when someone uses 'prolly' :)

When its used to end a sentence its bad. Its like "whatever".

ie. "What do you think about the game tonight, think it'll be good?" "Yeah, prolly" would get on my tits.

"Yeah it might be good...Chelsea will prolly be going all out to take lead for the first leg" wouldnt.

Clearly your chest is easily scalable to the average group of words. Have you thought about oiling up in order to make it a more difficult climb for any of the more adventurous sentences? Saying that though, whenever I try this they just use the route that takes them up the "more dangerous at the outset, but gets easier" southern face.
Hey, what you gonna do.

Indeed but it's not just its position in the sentence but the rest of the sentence itself.

Thing is it's never really struck me as a slang word that was borne out of genuine need but rather one that is used deliberately as part of the written dialect of the 'txt spk' generation, that's why it bugs me. If it's part of a perfectly reasonable sentence as in your second example then it's obvious it's just a handy abbreviation and it doesn't carry any baggage.

Hey, Hairy, you did implement that change I suggested whereby you can attach physical bodily harm to these posts, right? You remember? That idea I had for the forum...?
