I got to shut the shop an hour early! On the flip side, it was really boring having to give my version of events to about seven different people.

You must be the first person to ever find something good out of being robbed :o)

Was it a shotgun? That would have been good, in a mafioso kind of way.

Nah, looked like a common-or-garden revolver. Every chance it wasn't actually a real gun, but for the sake of the company's money (and only £320 that he got away with at that - lol! Would be awesome if he got a five year stretch for that) I wasn't too interested in checking.

The best thing is I'm pretty certain I know who it was, and according to the woman who was managing the other day he was in and threatened her then, too. Once we can have the CCTV pulled it could be conclusive.

He has to be pretty stupid to risk so much for a small amount of money - I want proper thieves that plan it for months and end up with tens of thousands (before getting caught). At least that's almost worth the attempt.

I propose a new security system - a small trip wire appears behind the person and a large pit. As the turn to run away they fall over the wire then into the pit. At the bottom of the pit are thousands of maggots, the trapdoor then closes.

Wonder if I can get this past health and safety.

Hmm, that sounds like a good system - but just for our regular punters, never mind robbers.

It's true, I could have used someone to fashion a gun out of betting slips and small plastic pens. And then batter his face in with the makeshift gun, rather than shooting anything at him.

We did have one punter in the shop at the time who "wanted to pick up this chair and smash him over the head with it" but was for some reason hesistant.

I was robbed twice in meh video shop days, once with a syringe and once with a big bastard knife, twas buttock clenching at the time but I had a good story to tell ... one of the robbers made his get away on a moped driven by a friend, the cops ran them off the road and they ended up in hospital :D

You gotta love sweet, sweet revenge.

I have to admit I'd probably be more worried about someone coming at me with a syringe than a gun. o_O

Well, the guy who was working with me happened to be right to the side of the door as the bloke came in, when he turned round and saw the gun he bolted out the door and up the road. He eventually phoned from a house down the street to see if it was all over!

People working in shops should be allowed to have a shotgun under the counter, just in case like. :)

Blimey ilm - you sound awfully calm about it. I guess there's not much to do exeept what they ask, but even so you can't legislate for what someone that desperate for cash will do. Not sure I would have been so calm !

Glad to see you came out of it ok, not the nicest thing to have happen I'm sure!

Knowing who it was of course means there's no chance of a really crappy reconstruction on Crimewatch, you've missed out. :-P

Clearly, people have not been watching enough 24. The only thing to consider in such a situation is, 'What would Jack do?'

You reckon closing one hour early was worth the trouble of potentially being shot? 0_o
Surely you lost more than one hour explaining it all to the police and recounting it 7 times. ;-)

Glad to hear you're OK.

I had a shotgun aimed at me once in my younger days but not in a shop. It's very scary.

Go down the pub and see how many free drinks you can get for telling the tale. Bonus points if you can get a sea monster into it.

To be honest, while I'm glad Ilmaestro is okay... I'm deeply disappointed. You let us all down, man. Hang your head in shame. Think of the exposure if you'd, I dunno, twisted the gun outta his hand and knocked him out for the authorities to arrive. Think of the headlines, man. No more videogame nasties shit.

HERO AT GUNPOINT SAYS NINJA REACTIONS DOWN TO VIDEOGAMES

And it wouldn't have stopped there! No! Within a year it could have been:

VIDEOGAME NINJUTSU ADDED TO NATIONAL SCHOOL CURRICULUM

How about that, eh? And then:

GREAT BRITAIN IN RECORD OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL HAUL DOWN TO "GAMES NINJANESS"

And:

HOSTILE EXTRATERRESTRIALS ARRIVE: BRITAINS NINJA GAMERS STEP FORWARD

Um...

"WE KICKED ALIEN ARSE! THANKS, GEEKS!" SAYS THE WORLD

Yeah, uh... I think... I Think my...

"NINJANESS IN GAMES EQUATES TO NINJANESS IN BED" SAY WOMEN OF THE WORLD

If you could just excuse me a moment -

"PLAYING GAMES COULD ACTUALLY PREVENT CANCER" SAY SCIENTI

/SMASH

Sorry, I think my... uh... my headline writing machine has overloaded. Anyway, while I'm not suggesting that everyone should try to be a hero in the situation Ilmaestro found himself in... actually, yes, I am.

I am saying that.

Dammit.

FUCK YOU UBISOFT

Crumbs, hope you're alright ilmaestro, I would've been really shaken up if that was me.

I know an Asian fella who runs a mini-mart and he is basically Apu from the Simpsons. He gets shot at or held at gun point at least three times a year, the poor sod. Dunno how he copes!

Fucking hell man! That's hardcore! I've had shit my pants!

A mate of mine when I worked at Phones 4U had their store robbed in Uxbridge (turned out to be an inside job). 3 guys came barging in with CS spray and electric stun guns and made everyone lie face down while they tied them up. My mate said having his face down and hearing the crackle of the stun gun behind his head was fucking terrifying... They made them open the security cage, nicked nearly everything and locked the staff in the cage. They only got out because they'd not stolen some cheap pay as you go phones so they called the cops from one of those!

He was going to sue the company, apparently there was a panic code he could have entered into the security cage lock that would have rung a silent alarm in the cop shop, but no-one had told any of them the code

It wasn't an historically-accurate giant enemy crab, though. Otherwise I know he would've.

Thanks for the comments, guys, it certainly wasn't the most fun thing ever, but fortunately it was over in literally a minute or two.

I'm actually printing Stevas' post out and sticking it on the wall beside the fire drill.

ilmaestro is just from the old school of stiff upper lips =)

I heard on the radio last week an apparantly true account of when one of Wellington's generals got his leg shot off.

General: "By God! My leg's been shot off!
Wellington: "By God, sir! So it has!"
