Been thinking about this for a while - listening back to some of the EG Music Comp CDs I got, it was a stonkingly good idea that sort of fizzled out. I wonder, would anyone be interested in reviving the same idea here!?

Dunno how possible it would be to do but would anyone be vaguely interested?

I would but the problem was that a lot of people didn't send on the CDs. I only ever received one.

It's a damn fine idea though.

Perhaps something a little more subversive then - sticking up an online list / comp of, say, 10 tracks somewhere (not here obviously, that'd be a bit too naughty)...

I'm in too.

edit: What does it involve (other than posting cds to each other)?

Sounds good, although I'm not sure how well my taste in music would mesh with everyone elses...

It was a great idea, but the monthly schedule was a bit much in the end; I guess there's no reason why you couldn't send the same disc out to different people, but creating a new, interesting disc every four/five weeks was quite hard work.

Still got the tracklistings online though:

+ March 2006
+ April 2006
+ May 2006
+ June 2006
+ August 2006

Man! I wish you'd sent me one of those.

I was in on the previous one. I ended up sending the same compilation each time, based on the fact that Spanky and Roobs said they liked it. Maybe they were being polite! :o)
I was never bowled over by the stuff I received though....

I don't think I still have the disk images else I'd happily burn you copies; what in particular, took your fancy?

I chose the theme 'cover versions' for that month; IIRC, April's was drawn from my most recent purchases at the time and June's was an 80s compilation.

They all look pretty good, but the 80s compilation was most appealing.

I got your cover version one, it was good (not to my usual tastes, but still good) :P

As long as I'm not supposed to make a website like Oneiros did every month. :-)

Seriously. I love the idea but I'm sure I wont manage to burn off a disc a month and get it out to the post office.

Why not have an online version? A lil easier for people possibly?

Ive got a chunk of bandwidth and webspace people could use for it..

I'm definately up for it if we can sort out the method.

..and a suggestion - why not have some link to the selections up on the front page (obviously no dodgy links in it) maybe as a monthly article, although that may go against the "all about the games" message.

Aye, put it up online I'd say. Need access to an FTP server, which I should be able to provide.

Yeah, I like the idea of having a dumping ground for the mp3s. However, I really liked the way that you only got one persons CD a month. I think if everyone had access to everyone elses CD it wouldn't be as special. IMO.

Well it could be done in monthly (or maybe weekly turns) and then the compilation could be moved to a different part of the server for archiving, but removing it from public access.

Not a bad option that. It'll probably lead to people trying to out-weird each other with music tastes, but that's inevitable anyway I guess.

How about everyone contributes a single track to create a communal AATG mixtape on a monthly (or even weekly) basis?

That would be good if someone picked a theme for each week, and depending on how many people were interested, may need everyone to submit a couple of tracks.

If we wanted to do a whole disc worth, we can still have a common dumping ground, but just upload them into different directories and email the correct link to the required person.

I've also got plenty of webspace people can use if they need.

Something like this sounds good - a reason behind the playlist other than "I like these".

Monthly should add a bit of anticipation, more tracks each can be chosen and less people are likely to drop out if they don't have to spend so much time on it.

What about making a mini-album each every time? 5 or 6 songs that work well together along a theme of some kind.

The only things about getting people to submit a couple of tracks is it reduces the chance of getting a nice flowing mix of tunes. You may also wind up with too many tracks to fill one CD but not enough to fill two :)

If each person submits a mini album each that could work though. Blank CDs are cheap :)

"Flow" is definately what I was thinking - if it's not enough tracks by one person as a collection it might as well be people picking songs at random.

5-6 songs minimum would hopefully give something people might want to listen to as a collection.

I'm up for this most definitely but as Mike said, I only received one CD and that was from Peej.

An MP3 trade system would be better and as long as we didn't promote it too seriously, we could use the tons of webspace I have on aatgmedia.net to host the files.

See I did think of that, but I thought it might be a tad too naughty and risky...

But that would be a good solution...
