I never used to drink coffee before, and then a few months back I went through a period of trying different types just to see what all the fuss was about. I wasn't too fond of the Cappuccinos and Lattes, but then I tried a Mochaccino, which was absolutely delicious... so much so that for a few weeks I was having one regularly.

But after a while I realised that, you know, this shit is actually quite bad for you and I shouldn't be drinking it so much. And then I suddenly went off it... I thought drinking coffee 2-3 times a week was bad, but then I read that some people can't live without 2-3 cups a day! I wonder if these people realise how unhealthy it is, especially when you add all the sugar and stuff on top.

Anyway, I just had my first Mocha today for the first time in months, and... it was nice. So erm, yeah, what are your thoughts?

I'm an addict, but I tend to just have one large strong cup a day, and then takes me through. Can't understand these people that chug down proper strong cups all day. Instant is different though, you can drink much more of that.

Oh, and stop drinking mochachinos you girl :)

I like the odd cappuccino but only if the place does it properly.

My mate who works in retail drinks eight strong cups a day. I almost dropped my pint when he told me. He's gonna die soon.

One cup in the morning is the usual.

Sometimes I'll go on a binge and make a 4-mug flask of coffee.

Usually it's a pot of tea that I make, which usually results in me going to the loo 8 times a day. Stupid, yummy tea.

I drink 2 cups of strong coffee most mornings, with maybe another one in the afternoon. Milk, no sugar. I love the caffeine rush. I recently bought one of those metal stove-top expresso makers & its lovely. At home I mostly drink expresso, or add hot water & milk to make an Americano.

Im trying to cut down, not easy when we've just had a new coffee maker installed in the office, and they've got a shedload of Gloria Jean yank coffee to be used up.

Slurrrrrp!

I go through about a pot of filter coffee and five or so cups of instant when I'm at home for a day, tend to stick to tea if I'm in the office though as we have to get dodgy milk for the woman I work with and it tastes... well... dodgy, in coffee.

I drink a lot of coffee, mostly instant but also fresh brewed out of the machine at work. I drink it black without sugar, so I'm not fussed about the calorie intake. It keeps me on my toes! Probably 5 cups a day, give or take. I try not to have any past 3pm.

Kay - fuck that mocha shit, get yourself a ristretto :)

I like it, but I rarely have any. If I do, it's a good double espresso from my own machine. Never had a caffeine buzz before I started making my own.

I ordered a double espresso once from a Starbucks in Seattle, and the counter girl said "You do know what an espresso is don't you ?". I put on my best posh accent and said "Of course I do - I'm European !".

American coffee's great though - I've never had a weak cup there, not even in a Starbucks.

Those buggers like the stuff so strong that you could baste a cat's arse brown with it

I want to like coffee but I can't. I actually start gagging when I drink it, I find it so utterly vile. It's annoying because I hear of all these great types of coffee but I have such an aversion to it. I'll stick to good old tea, especially now that lactose-free milk has been invented which means I can drink normal tea without feeling like shite afterwards.

Same here. Apparently I loved drinking cold coffee when I was little though :-/

I can't stand tea either.

Spanky gave himself coffee poisoning once. I'm not sure how much he drank in one go but he ended up drinking enough to give himself the worse stomach and head pains and to the point where he collapsed. Amazingly it hasn't put him off drinking coffee at all.

i've never been a fan of the taste of coffee and caffeine has depressingly little effect on me so it's very rare that i drink it. when i do it tends to be because my eyelids are closing at work, so in an attempt to wake myself up i pile 3 or 4 heaped teaspoons into a cup add just enough hot water to dissolve it then a little cold so i can drink it and bolt it down (or eat it with a knife and fork depending on my mood) i've never had a caffeine buzz, but it tends to curb the immediate falling asleep problems, although that may just be the nasty flavour waking me up rather than the drugs.

I only drink tea when I'm ill. For some reason that's the only time I go off coffee completely.

I'm a caffeine fan - but I don't normally drink a lot of coffee. Mainly it's because the filter machine here produces awful stuff (but still, it's better than instant).

Still, I need to get my head sorted before this evening, so at the moment I'm on my second mug of filter coffee, and I'm about to go for my second diet coke.

Sadly, I've never noticed any sort of caffeine rush. It's debatable how much of its effect on me is down to actual effects, and how much is psychosomatic.

According to wikipedia, coffee might be good for preventing cirrhosis of the liver, so I think I might go for a third mug today...

Tea? It even smells foul.

I'll just trim the hedge and boil the leaves, shall I?

Hmm, I'll give that a try next time I get some coffee then. Probably in a couple of months time. :)

By the way, I was talking about the coffee you buy in the shops, as in going to the local Costas and ordering myself a mocha. Never tried making coffee myself or using one of those machines... is there really much of a difference there, quality-wise? Not that I'm planning on developing some sort of addiction.

The thing about doing it yourself is you can have a lot more control over the flavour, right down to roasting your own beans if you really want to have full control. My local Italian deli does its own blend and it's the most delicious thing in the world, so I get a bag from him and make it at home as well, although it's not quite as good as he makes it.

If you're still drinking mocha type things I wouldn't worry too much about doing it yourself as you're butchering all the proper flavours anyway ;-) Seriously though, as your taste develops and you ditch the hot chocolate, doing it at home is good.

I've done that, it was awful. Terrible nausea, constantly feeling on the verge of throwing up but just not able to do it :(

Hasn't put me off either though!

Love Coffee myself, although I try and drink filter stuff only! Thing is we got a cheap ass filter machine which makes really quite nice stuff but is...just....not...hot....enough. I like my coffee scalding! :o)

I think it says a lot about this place that we can have a thread called Hot Coffee that is actually about coffee and not Rockstar-style "hot coffee"

If that's a request, I can help :oP

Never liked coffee - it's too bitter for my taste, there is no way I'm putting the 3 sugars/sweeters in it to make it taste good for me.

I'm completely caffeine free now and still hyperactive most of the time. Coffee could send me over the edge.

I'll have a cup of filtered coffee at home every once in a while, don't often really get the taste for it and I loathe instant.

On the other hand, TEA HATERS BEGONE! Absolutely lurve my tea - nice cup of Earl grey in the mornings, peppermint tea after lunch, and a nice spot of Darjeeling in the afternoons, now that's the way to go...awesomeness.

Never really had the 'caffeine buzz' though. Too much caffeine just makes me really jumpy, that's why I prefer milder teas I think.
