Hum. I don't know what it is but despite clearly being really quite attractive, I've never really found Tricia Helfer that hot. Just something about her I find a complete turnoff.

I'm a bit the same with Grace Park who I know most people prefer (random boast: I sat behind her on a plane once).

In fact, having watched BSG series 3 recently I'm absolutely convinced that Katee Sackhoff is by far the finest of them all, particularly with her hair long like she has at the start of the series. Yes please indeed.

Good choice. She looks mighty fine in Bionic Woman as well. :-D

NSFW.

When I first saw her in episode 1 I was all "wowza", but the second she snapped a baby's neck I wilted and have remained flacid towards her ever since.

I know, I know, "newsflash, BSG isn't real", but still...

Ok, I've just started Season 3 and BSG is officially my favourite series, ever.

Ok, so the start of season 3 is a little slow - in fact the first four episodes are like one big one split into four chunks and I found it a bit of a chore until episode 5. That said, they did have to make some major changes to get it back on track, so all is forgiven.

What I like about BSG, what I *really* like is the unpredicability. It isn't one of those namby-pamby shows that's too afraid to kill off or seriously injure main characters. Quite a few things have happened (since the first series) that's made me all "WTF! You can't do that!!". The bonus is that when a characters life is on the line there is geniunely a feeling of "they might not make it". Unlike other series where you just know the main characters are indestructable.

Anyway, bit of a waffle, but BSG rocks, very much so.

Part of your opinion about the show will be revised once you see the entire season.

Oh and plus some of the episodes during the mid section of the season really, really stink.

I liked S3 a lot on the whole. Yes, it's slower-paced for the most part, but I enjoyed the change and it was good to let some of the characters expand a bit more.

Some slower episodes worked better than others - I think I mentioned before that there's one particularly Helo-heavy episode later that's very poor indeed - but I enjoyed bits like Adama's anniversary and The Passage lots. I think it needed a gear change since there's only so many times you can see a Raider explode in a starfield before it gets stale, and the speed really ratchets up towards the end.

The whole series is worth it for the final 5 minutes of the season. Genuinely my favourite cliffhanger of any TV show ever. Even now my spine tingles.

Frankly I'm shocked that anyone could ever describe the first four episodes of season three as a 'chore' - personally I thought they were some of the most stunning TV I have ever seen.

Having finished series 3 a couple of weeks back, overall I think it's the best season so far. The more mystical side of the show seemed less prominent than in series 2 and was better for it imo. I'm not a big fan of all the 'thirteenth tribe' stuff or the idea of certain characters being predestined to be involved in events - it seems out of place in a series that elsewhere is so grittily realistic.

That said, I still thought the punch-the-air ending of series 3 was a lot of fun - and Whizzo, did you really ever expect anything else?

From new BSG? Yeah I did really and the fact that a certain something that happened has been acknowledged as only being done because it would shock the audience made it rather a hollow gesture.

The first four episodes were merely ok in my book, Battlestar Iraqtica was so heavy handed and transparent it was poorly done. More subtlety please in future.

It pissed off rightwingers in the US by even *suggesting* that 'insurgents' were freedom fighters as far as they were concerned.

Therefore good :)

Naw, I'm in total agreement with Whizzo, infact I had a huge rant on it over at EG about it and caught alot of flak for it. The previous episodes had managed to be thought provoking and draw parallels without being that dumbed down and obvious. The night vision for instance was so cheesy/tacky.

Still, the Adama Move (I cant spell manuveuereurer) made up for it.

I dunno. I think there's a place for subtlety and there's a place for being straight up and to the point. Being very metaphorical about things is arguably a 'safer' way to approach an issue, since you're being more oblique and it's much easier to claim it's mere coincidence that parallels exist between real life events and events in the show. But there's something brave about being so blunt about their message, I think.

It wasn't so much the message that made it great TV for me anyway, it was just incredibly well scripted and directed.

And regarding the end of S3, I've never understood why people have a problem with things being done to provoke a reaction from the audience. I enjoy being emotionally engaged by a TV show, if it does that then it's doing something right. I don't understand why it makes it somehow not valid if the writers intended an emotional reaction from the outset?

Series three was just good compared to the excellent quality of the first two. Maybe they ran out of ideas, maybe American audiences lost interest due to slight dips in quality/Iraq parallels or had moved on, like with the West Wing.

It did start to remind me of shows like Deep Space Nine: The dull years partway through. Character exposition is nice but not so good when the plot goes nowhere fast.

You should watch all the episodes in three days like I did. Came out of that wondering why people gave me funny looks for saying "frack" :o)

Minor Season 3 Spoiler:

Was it just me hoping they were hearing the Hendrix version of the song and it was coming from earth?

I think I prefer her in non-trying-to-be-sexy guise tbh. She's just one of those women that looks at their best with their hair all mussed up and in grubby everyday clothes. Er, or is that just me?

Regarding the minor spoiler - yes, I wanted it to be the Hendrix version too. I really loved that sequence because as the episode went on and I was gradually picking up more of the song, I began to recognise it too, and had exactly the same experience as the characters in trying to remember what it actually was.

As for series 3, I dunno, I didn't really mind the slowness of the overall plot because I found so much to enjoy in the individual episodes. Yes, there's definitely some clunkers in the middle of the series, but episodes like the boxing ring one I found completely compelling, even though it barely moved the overall plot forward at all.

You're very picky about your women :o)

I just hope they don't blow it with an easy "happy ever after" ending. Earth getting attacked would be a good start but expensive to do and then they'll probably want to have a happy send off for the show - it's not something that fits with the show to date but too many other great programs have gone for sentimental endings that it's a strong possiblility..

Nah, they'll get to earth safely and happily and then attempt to colonise it with children who have special powers.

A reimagining of Galactica 80 would be the most depressing ending ever.

Heh, this is true. Probably why I'm single at the moment!

I think they'll go for an ending where not everyone makes it through, but those that do get their 'happily ever after'. Kinda like the end of Serenity.

On another note - I really hope they do something to make the Cylons a bit more of a threat in series 4. Ever since series 2 they've been demystifying them to the extent where it's hard to really believe they actually want to wipe out all the remaining humans. Arguably they're more interesting now, but they're also a lot less scary. :/

I've just watched the last episode of series 3.

WTF?!

(avoiding spoliers:) The bit in the fighters was predictable. But the scene on BSG was a bit of a WTF moment.

Ok, bring on series 4! Has it been confirmed just how many series they plan on doing?

Aye, there were indeed they iirc were webisodes only and were on the SciFi website prior to S3, and provided a little more depth to the character motivations behind the Iraqtica bombings. Probably still on you tube somewhere too !
