Been various threads on EG over the years about cameras in this price range, last of which came to the conclusion that the Fujifilm Finepix F31FD is the one to go for.

As that was months ago has any similarly priced cameras beaten it or is that the one I should be tracking down. I'm a pretty much a point and shoot type of photographer but would rather like to move into the digital age at last!

the casio exilims are still bloody fantastic. And if you're into picking one up on the way out through the airport to the US, you'll be able to get one for stupiiidocheap.

You can pick one of these up for just under 200 online Whizzo - the Panasonic Lumix DMC-Z3.

Just come back from my first holiday with one, and taken some lovely shots, a lot of which are down to the Leica lens and the 10xoptical zoom.

Don't do that!

Buy one IN the US and it'll be even cheaper. The difference in prices is stupid, particularly with Sony cameras where is is almost 1=$1 bad.

Not so sure on that any more, there's quite a few camera review sites that have UK/US prices on them and the differences aren't that vast.
