For you, and for me, and the entire human race.

Start now, start with the man in the mirror, make that change.

Ok, enough Jacko lyrics. The world, in my opinion, is going to shit. The cnuts are outnumbering the decent people by a scary amount. I think it's fair to say that the vast majority of people here are among the few decent souls left.

It's a time that we few, we happy few, we band of brothers, take back our world, reclaim it in the name of pleasantness and decency, and start teaching people to think of others rather than themselves.

You don't need to be a hero, you don't need any special abilities, no lives need to be put on the line. A staggering difference can be made simply by performing good deeds. A good deed not only makes you feel better, but also the person you aided. In turn this person will likely be more pleasant to those other people they meet during the day and possibly be more inclined to perform good deeds of their own.

So what I want from you, all of you, even the particularly grumpy and moody ones, is to perform some sort of good deed by Friday. It doesn't have to be huge, it could be as simple as holding open a door for someone who has their arms full, helping an old lady cross the road, that sort of thing. Perform that good deed and you'll sleep better at night and you'll be doing your bit to make the universe a better place.

Even small ripples cross the biggest of ponds.

So go, good-doers, perform your deeds of good and post here. Not for competition, but for motivation of others.

List of good deeds so far:

Truk - opened gates for a miserable and knackered worker.
Jimjam - Ordered photos of his daughter for his grandma, as a treat.
Peej - if he did help out his DA for a day
Stevas - for screwing UBISOFT for a day
Retroid - spending time with a friend in need
Legion - Entertained a 3 year old
Tiger_Walts - Helped a disabled gamer get his 360 console repaired.

I watched that film Pay it Forward. All it made me want to do is punch Haley Jo Osment.

I know what you're saying though, sometimes you wonder how it would be if you could somehow afford to set up a commune of like-minded people who didn't act like selfish twats all the time. Could be blissful.

OK to pay it forward, I will give our stressed to the gills domain admin the day off and take over his duties for the day.

I think the way we could achieve the most good is to go on a killing spree....wait wait...let me explain

There are indeed more of the horrible people than the good, if we brave lot went and tracked them all down, calmly removing their heads from their bodies we would achieve much good.

As there is more of them than us, we would solve the worlds overcrowding problems.

We would slow global warming by decreasing the number of cars on the road.

We would remove the world of the class system as, all being decent folks we would be able to work on a good deed scheme.

We would improve the quality of the games industry as neddy plebs not buying iteration after iteration of the same old used up concept would force Devs into only making good games.

I'm sure there's more, but i figure that's a good starter for ten.

Ok, you've all not really got the idea of doing nice things now have you?

I'm serious, you've all got to do a good deed by Friday or donate 5 to charity, or I'll sulk.

I went and opened the car-gate for one of the office workers who work on the ground floor of my apartment block. It was about 11pm and he was just leaving work - he looked fecking knackered and thoroughly miserable - so I offered to walk to the car-gate and open it for him and close it after him. It's a manual gate and a pain to do when you're in your car on your own. Hopefully that cheered him up. :-)

Ok the logic around that is now making my head hurt. Nice try, but no cigar.

Killing people doesn't secure a place on the list either.

In fact, let's just clear this up right now - killing (or not killing) anyone, thing, animal, vegetable or mineral does not count as a good deed. Nor does dreaming about, drawing, or convincing someone else to kill (or indeed, not kill) anyone, thing, animal, vegetable or mineral.

Let's just steer clear of the whole "death" thing, as it's unlikely to result in the cheery impact I was hoping for with my OP.

I'm taking my just-been-cleared-of-ABH (and depressed as hell) to the cinema this week.

I have no idea what's on and he'll choose. So I'll probably hate it.

What if you're one of the few remaining polite people who always holds the door open for others, says please and thank you, does favours for people, etc, all without needing incentives like "being put on a list"?

Okay, I'm glad you cleared that up. Now then as I (for the purpose of this here post) believe in reincarnation, I suggest we embark on an escapade of re-birth.

Helping these hapless individuals towards an opportunity of an enlightened and better next life is surely a good deed?

And another thing, I have held the door open for at least five people today. I do this because it was the way I was brought up, not because i was looking for anything from them but still...

...not one of the feckers said thank you!

Then carry on, but being polite isn't the same as doing a good deed.
