Or: which were the best games for it? Since I've got into ST emulation again, I'm on the lookout for hidden gems I've forgotten about / didn't know existed.

So, ST owners, I'm looking for your software recommendations!

No MIDI software though.

I WILL KILL YOU!!!!

Oh you're asking for advice, you amiga-loving FREAK :)

Eesh, ST wise...it'd be tough to think of ST exclusives that you wouldn't have seen on the Amiga anyway but my favouritest games of all time on the ST are/were

1) Buggy Boy - superb version, arcade perfect
2) Xenon 1 - no idea why Xenon 2 gets all the love, I thought the first one rawked
3) Captain Blood - Bizarre spacey type stuff with a fantastic soundtrack
4) Barbarian (not to be confused with the head-chopp-em-up)
5) Gauntlet 2
6) Brattacus
7) Super Sprint
8) Dungeon Master
9) Oids
10) Leathernecks

Just a few there that are worth looking out for.

OIDS!

Yes, cheers, that'll be one I'll grab.

I'm on the lookout mostly for non-mouse games since I'll be playing these primarily on my GP2X. Have to say, the games look great on the screen, nice 1-1 res matching :)

I was never sure about the 16bit versions of Buggy Boy, IIRC the framerate was a bit arse and I prefered the super-scaley-effect on the C64 version.

What's Leathernecks? Commando clone?

Yup - not a bad one though.

There was a really good early ST game that was a loud noisy Arkanoid clone, can't remember the name of it but it was pretty good. Probably next to useless on the GP2X though.

The ST version of Buggy Boy was quite slick, and definitely didn't have any of that frame-dropping stuff going on (at least I don't remember it).

Virus.

And there was an amazing shooter where you were at ground level rushing forward at great speed, no idea what it was called though, been bugging me for years!

Virus, yes, that's an absolute classic! But not on a handheld with a digital joystick ;)

Might the game you're thinking of be Backlash?

Also the ultimate version of Elite which I'm amased Lutz has never tried to play.

I put so many hours into Chocks Away and it's follow up with a mate it's untrue.

I was always a bit sad missing the majority of the Amiga classics but that one game plus the fact that there were some definitive versions ported ( GODS for example ) and a league we ran for Man United soccer at my boarding school made up for it.

Not so sure they'd have allowed me to have an Amiga in my room for educational purposes :p

Actually, I don't have an Atari ST either! O_o

Backlash was one of my fave Amiga games. Infact, I have the budget rerelease I picked up as a backup to my original sitting on the shelf behind me :)

It's a sort-of sequel to the same author's Atari 800 / C64 game Encounter, a 'tribute' to Battlezone but done with character blocks rather than vectors :)

Backlash and my 'Arcade' joystick was the recipe for hours of fun. That and Virus made the ST for me. Must pick one up on ebay sometime.

Also, Pushover was fucking brilliant. I want a remake of that actually.

It seems to have lost the post I made last night about not being able to find a disk with Oids on apart from the Automation 'CD', which for some reason won't accept keyboard input on the emulators I'm using :/

Dataflame has had another brainfart by the look of it :(

I have a working Oid file if you want me to email it to you? Works under Steem :)

Yup, #97, along with Dungeon Master and 3D Pool.

Bugger.

I'm playing these on my GP2X, y'see; they work fantastically as handheld games! o/

When they work, that is.

It's bizarre, it's the only Automation disk I've had the problem with...

Try this Oids.

Okay....

Well, that disk didn't work, it just booted to GEM. But seeing that reminded me to try switching back to a different TOS (I was using 2.06) as the memtest, even though it's skippable, was annoying me.

What do you know? The Automation disk now works and I've just been playing Oids on my GP2X! o/

(Good job Pinball Dreams works on the Amiga emu!)

I've been having great fun with Paradroid 90 on this, Oids is Quite Nice but I feel I haven't had the chance to properly devote time to it. Don't suppose there's a guide around, is there?

Much as I love the DS it *really* doesn't have the grunt needed for WinUAE. The Amiga is an absolute bitch to get emulated properly on lower-end tech and the GP2X & PSP barely manage it.
