It's not bad. Very pretty, gameplay really is like someone stapled Tomb Raider and Gears Of War together, animation and AI seemed well done. I didn't notice any of the problems people had commented on at earlier previews about the aiming or number of shots needed to kill people, so they've obviously tuned things up. Although, the mechanism for throwing grenades is utterly hateful - you need to do some freaky combination of aiming and tilting and it feels hard to throw them with any speed or accuracy.

For my tastes in games, I think it might end up getting a little tedious (you do seem to be facing a never ending supply of bad guys) but that is the worst complaint about the demo I can think of and I can see why people are raving about it :-)

So, more crowbarred in SIXAXIS controls? Great.

Is this a whole new demo or did they actually patch the other one?

Wasn't that impressed, but that's from someone who isn't into the whole gun thing. Not that good at aiming in the first place and I found the targeting to be quite unforgiving.

I just got tired of it by the end, the constant cover/shoot routine, the waves of enemies, the OCD of collecting ammo.

I'll give it another shot, but a it's big meh from me, so far.

They actually fixed the original one, as far as I understood that article on the Playstation blog.

I really like this, the Gears combat comparisons aren't too far off. Very good fun.

The Indy style characters and story seem right up my street.

Definitely getting this.

It's gone from a "definite" down to a "not sure" for me. The fighting's fine, it's the awful animation of the main character I don't like. He's too floaty and his jumps seemingly defy gravity. When everything else is rendered so realistically (his jeans even get to just the right point wet when he goes in water, and they stay wet for ages too), this jars a lot.

I guess that annoys me even more than if it had been a new demo. I deleted the old download :(

I dunno.... it's hard for me to work out whether this game (and several others, we all know which they are) were so expected *because* they deserve the attention, or just because the PS3-exclusives are in such short supply at the moment.

If this was on the 360 I'd be keeping an eye on it but that's about it.

As you know, Retroid, this caught my eye well before I had a PS3, and I know a few others that felt the same about it so I reckon it's less PS3-centric than may seem.

I dunno if it's going to be stellar, but it's a lot of fun and different enough from the other games I'm lined up to play this Christmas to be worthy of a look on any platform for me.

I know, and yes, some of it does look nice. As I said, I'd be keeping my eye on it (I am keeping an eye on several PS3 titles, but that's a different matter) regardless but I don't think a lot of the PS3 releases this winter would be getting as much attention if the schedules were busier.

Personally, Ratchet & Clank was *never* a stand-out game or series to me, yet it's getting a lot of push and airtime.

Yeah, same here. It is *incredibly* pretty but apart from that it's a very basic platformer. It's getting the push because it's a family-friendly title that shows off how the system looks, basically

Wow, wasn't the animation the big hype marketing point for this?

I do believe that both R&C and Uncharted deserve all the attention they are getting, even though Uncharted doesn't directly appeal to my tastes. They both look like highly solid games with no obvious flaws (*) that offer something that you can't currently find on the 360. Why shouldn't they get airtime or have people rave about them?

And whilst Rhythm is correct that R&C is a family friendly game that shows the system off (mainly due to it's cartoony graphics), it is also a good execution of a dying breed of game styles from a well-established franchise. This counts a lot for people's potential excitement. The R&C series has (nearly) always been good fun to play, and when the worst complaint about it is that it isn't SMG, Tools of Destruction obviously hasn't broken the pattern yet.

(* - based on impressions from demos and previews)

I don't think the problem is with the animation. It's more that the character seems to float slightly. Not sure why this is exactly (the 3D model definitely seems to make contact with the floor texture), but you really notice it when you walk slowly or change direction - the ground slides underneath you.

That and there's no real sense of gravity with the jumps either. He jump too far forward and up without any real effort. The animation itself is top notch

Ah, right, gotcha. The slidey walk thing really should have been eliminated this gen, for me, it definitely can be jarring when everything else looks good.

Just spent a couple of hours playing around with this (and by playing around, I mean seeing just how much you can actually do within the confines of the game).

It's quite stunning to look at, good character design with a lot of detail on the characters (much as we've come to expect from the PS3).

The "weird floaty" animation style of this heavily reminded me of another game where there was no transitional movement between each "action" but my memory's crap today so I can't think which game it is. It doesn't detract from the action much though and the game does seem pretty chock full of action.

Not nearly enough platformy puzzley bits in the demo to gauge whether it's basically going to be run and gun all the way but it's still interesting enough to stay put on my preorder list.

Anyone see tearing? Not quite tearing but lots of weirdness when you pan the viewpoint around a lot (though again I'm willing to take the 5th on that and not say it wasn't my telly again).

Krudster reckoned the demo was much more combat oriented than the full game, which is about a 50/50 spilt action to exploring.

Didn't spot any tearing throughout the demo. When you spin the camera though, it seems to smooth out the background, like some fancy motion blur effect. I've seen a couple of other games do this recently, so it's obviously some kind of trendy next-gen fashion statement :-)

That wasn't what I was saying; I was just talking about the *amount* of attention they're getting, which IMO is mainly because of the relative lack of exclusives at the moment.

I mean, look at the attention lavished on Lair, FFS. I saw my first ingame video of that title and thought "Oh.... it really is Rogue Squadron with dragons".

Really Quite liked it. I know some people think there is too much combat but I liked the gun fights. Great cover system, cheers Epic. :)

Looks lush, water especially and it seems like it'll be quite challenging as well.

That could well be it. No tearing as such (well definitely no poly-shearing or v-synch issues) but something bizarre going on with the backgrounds. Though if I do this in real life the same thing happens so realism ftw!

Character design and detail is phenomenal though innit. Bit disappointed with some of the elements of the jungle (flat textures on the ground with sparse vegetation - COD4 does it SO much better) but at least we're starting to see proper next-gen interaction between character and environment (doing things like walking through grass, standing in water etc and you start to see all those beautifully understated and subtle effects going on).

It's got me intrigued enough to consider importing though...wonder if the full game would have that horrible demo bug in it

Apparently the bug's fixed for the old version too. Not sure how but it's worth a go before doing what I did (re-downloading it all over again )
