Apart from Pokemon and Zelda, has the DS had anything vaguely interesting this year? Seems like it's died on it's arse after all the great stuff last year. What have I missed or amirite?

The DS has sold a lot of Brain Training to old ladies who smell of wee.

In fact, if Nintendo did a game called "Bladder Training" it would make more sense.

That is all.

I haven't been all that impressed.

Zelda was a dissapointment to me, though tbh I haven't played it much as Monster hunter has been taking up my portable time.

Pokemon I really liked as usual.

That's it, played brain age a bit but don't really go in for that sort of stuff.

Psp ftw though. :)

Same here. PSP modded with M33 has pretty much consigned the DS to the drawer again.

Weird, they seem to take it in turns to get attention.

I didn't get on with Zelda either, which is tragic as I thought WW was one of the best games ever made. I was only playing Brain Training because I didn't have a current console at the time and was bored. The PSP occupied me for quite a while this year, but then I relented and bought the 360 and have barely touched the PSP either. The DS though was shocking this year though, bugger all from what I can see.

Puzzle Quest and Anno 1701. For me, that's all it had to do this year. But, yes, rather quiet all told.

PSP has had a very good year, in contrast.

Advance Wars DS 2 is coming out early next year, that should redress the balance.

Sim City 3000 DS disappointed me this year. It had the potential to be great, but was crap.

Was Theme Park DS any good?

Theme Park was a very faithful conversion. If you liked the original you'll love it.

I hear Cod4 on the DS is awesome.

I used to play my DS a lot but now that I have 3.71 M33 my DS hasn't been feeling the love.

Meh from me too.

Was Advance wars called Advance because it was on GBA? If so shouldn't it be DS wars now?

Just a random thought. :)

You guys will be able to play the first Prof. Layton game soon, which should make up for it to some extent.

I barely touch mine, though, despite games like FFT:A2 and FFXII:RW being about.

I'm looking forward to the second Layton game (next week in Japan) and the FFIV remake next month. For next year... dunno. The only things that come to the top of my head are Inazuma Eleven and Time Hollow. Plus the remaining DQ and FF remakes.

Hmm. The DS hasn't had a great year has it. PH is good but it's frustrating having to back track. Other than that, I've been playing Phoenix Wright 2 but not a lot else.

The PSP has been even worse though I've found. Puzzle Quest is the only game to interest me so far and it really, really shouldn't work. But it does.

MGS:PO is a bit meh too. Just a series of areas knocked together with some cutscenes.

Have you looked at DQ Monsters: Joker, WOPR? It's not exactly Rocket Slime, but it could be something that you're looking for.

Played the DS far more than the PSP and PS2 after catching up on both the Castlevainia games and a bit of Advance Wars but on the whole I think I got a bit bored of gaming in general this year, despite it having so many great releases.

Zelda is the only real DS game I've spent serious time playing.

Well, the more I think about it, the less of a recommendation it is in relation to Rocket Slime. It's a bit like Pokemon with a much deeper battle system and a different aesthetic. It's ideally crafted for handhelds but is a 'proper' game unlike a lot of DS releases. Unless you absolutely hate menu-driven, turn-based battles it would be something that you could look into as an alternative to your run-of-the-mill DS game.

Looking back at EG's list of DS reviews, though, there have been a number of either good or interesting games (it's plausible that some of these were late last year releases reviewed early this year, or 'late' PAL releases, I guess):

Children of Mana
Elite Beat Agents
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Magical Starsign
Mario Vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis
Slitherlink
Theme Park DS
Lunar Knights
Lost In Blue 2
Pokémon Diamond/Pearl
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2
Etrian Odyssey
Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol
Phantom Hourglass
Phoenix Wright 3
Heroes of Mana
