Always liked the look of these games and ilmaestro speaks very highly of them, so US release is great news.

The Japanese sites have flash demos for both the current games. The first game has one puzzle in and the second has 2.

Click where it says WEB体験版 on each of the pages to get to them.

In the first games puzzle you need to get all the animals across the river in 11 moves, the top left button resets the game. The second games puzzles are more self explanatory.

The animated cut scenes a lovely, and I puzzle seem fun. Looking forward to the English language release.

Such a pretty game, and this sort of stuff is what the DS needs bucketloads more of.

It really is beautifully presented - can't wait for the US version :-)

Layton is out of the top drawer - it has to be to get past my defences, as it is essentially a 'non-game' that has been expertly turned into a game by the addition of wonderful presentation, a good story and likeable characters. The second game is winging its way to me, although Play-Asia have been taking a little more time with a couple of my orders recently (FIFA just arrived today, two and a half weeks after being sent).

Woo-hoo! Second game turned up today, along with the little pre-order item of a mini Professor to dangle from my cell phone.

I'll probably play the Inazuma Eleven demo first, though, crazily enough.

Just been...er...demo-ing this. Oh man, that is lovely. I can't understand a bloody word that's going on but it's like watching / playing a Mizayaki film. Utterly enchanting. Really hope this gets a western release but it's gorgeous nonetheless.

/needs to learn Japanese.

Everyone needs to buy the US version of the first one, then (can you really see a PAL-land release?), to hopefully convince them to bring the sequel over, too.

Absolutely will do.

It's one of those games that the developers deserve our hard earned for.

Y'know, unlike about 90% of the dreck on the DS...

Yeah, I didn't like the sound of it at first but the trailer has got me excited for it. Having a proper day off has left me with the usual problem of not quite being able to decide what to do, though, so I've watched some American Football, cooked and played Halo today and haven't started this.

Did a little feature on this for the front page. There's a rather lovely translation guide for those of you who fancy importing. A third game is in development at the moment (the second being Prof. Layton and Pandora's Box which is already available in Japan at the mo).

I should be able to follow that up with a review of the second game just after Christmas - they're great games because you can slip a few puzzles in when it's dead in the office, or sit back and relax for a decent session in a comfy armchair.

Yep I've got it with me today (and I've ordered the first two from Play-Asia because these deserve to be bought).

I didn't realise there were 2000 puzzles in there. Flippin' eck!

Ilm / Trip - I'm guessing you chaps don't have as much trouble with the language as I do then? I did link to a translation guide which helped a hell of a lot but y'know what? I don't actually mind just playing 'em straight without it. It's quite easy to pick up the gist of most of the games and it's so lovingly presented anyway that going through the puzzles again and again till you "twig" isn't a chore at all.

Why can't western "edutainment" be this great?

No, my degree in Japanese helps with the language. ^_^

I totally agree with you, though, a lot of it you can get through anyway and even if there are a couple of sticky problems that does seem like a great guide, and it's no great hardship to do a bit of trial and error.

My Japanese isn't great peej. I can get the gist of some stuff, but more often than not I'm just not up to it and get tired of using a dictionary when I should be playing.

I skipped trying to read most of the dialogue in those demos, and just tried reading the explanations of the puzzles.

I really enjoyed the flash demos without understanding the story so I might grab one soon, especially if it's easy to get by without understanding it all.

I think it is. As Ilm said, you can get by skipping through the dialogue. I think you have to be reasonably clued up about how games work and how the quirks of Japanese menu systems work, but a tiny bit of trial an error will see you through and it's worth it just to drink in some of the lush little animations between each game-segment.

/REALLY wants the Prof's 2CV and Stovepipe hat.

I presume you've seen the live action adverts showing you that there is actually a hat (although I've never seen official replicas for sale), but I'm not so sure about the motor.

if I could find one that wasn't a rusted out wreck I'd just buy a red 2CV...

S'long as it came with an instruction manual on HOW TO CHANGE GEAR in the bloody thing!

I used to have a yellow 2CV when I was 18. It's really not that difficult. You have to pull towards you and the left for 1st gear, push and to the left for 2d, pull and to the right for 3rd, push and to the right for 4th. Can't remember what reverse was.

And that was for a left-handed drive mind you, so you may need to 'mirror' that for a right-handed drive.

LOL! That's not complicated at ALL!

I had to drive one home in an emergency (a friend I was skating with busted his ankle so I had to drive him and his car home) - scariest journey I've ever undertaken in a car. Every five seconds the engine started howling and I kept shouting "What fucking gear am I in?!"

I seem to remember this being very hard to find, with high prices recently. Shopto have it for 23 - worth it at that price? I'm thinking of picking it up along with GTA.

Yup worth it, plenty of game for the money...

Wonder when the sequel's estimated to arrive on western shores. And whether the stock issues will rear their ugly heads again.

I've got to admit, and I know I'm in the minority, but this just isn't floating my boat whatsoever. And I thought I'd love it. Perhaps that's the problem, I went in with unrealistically high expectations. Will give it longer though (only 25 puzzles in).

What? Do you know if it's coming to the UK?

Currently playing the second game on the DS (bemusing box or something) and it's great, a big step up from the original. I can't believe there are eight games in the series to plough through now!
