**1. What exactly does the Xbox 360 support for AVI?

Xbox 360 supports the following for AVI:

∑ File Extensions: .avi, .divx

∑ Containers: AVI

∑ Video Profiles: MPEG-4 Part 2, Simple & Advanced Simple Profile

∑ Video Bitrate: 5 Mbps with resolutions of 1280 x 720 at 30fps. See question number 11 for more information.

∑ Audio Profiles: Dolbyģ Digital 2 channel and 5.1 channel, MP3

Also, there's a video walkthrough of some of the other features.

Marketplace looks *far* sleeker.

Some pretty good features in there, nothing mind blowing though.

It'd be nice to be able to use messenger with Live accounts, not just linked live/passport accounts.

Cool. Hopefully ths means the equivalent PS3 update isn't too far behind as well. And the "remove trial demos from the game list" feature is most welcome too :-)

I'm amazed they managed to find a way to make the interface look even more clunky and badly designed than before. "Look, we managed to hide 3 features into one button so we have room to shoe-horn yet another pointless banner ad into the dead space. Aren't we clever."
They could really do with paying a designer to redo it, instead of getting their one of their developers (or more likely marketing people) with "artistic tendancies" to knock something together in their spare time.

I'd agree that it the dashboard doesn't look too nice, but I reckon it functional.

To be fair the Messages / Friends / Played tabbed screen could always have been on one tab anyway instead of seperate ones, so I don't have a problem with that in particular.

Cheers for the headsup Retroid - looks like it'll be a pretty handy update :-)
Might finally be a good reason ofr me to try and sort out wirelessly linking the 360 to my PC through my router!

Oops, Sony could still win the media extender fight. Divx support doesn't cover working over the network.

Is it sad that I'm actually looking forward to tomorrow because of this firmware update?

:/

I shall call this condition "PS3 owner syndrome"

I believe it still works over the Media Connect/WMP11 protocols though.
