A few people have voiced concerns over the size of the new and shiny AATG. Now for me, running my PC at 1280 x 1024 it's perfect, but I realise that not everyone has their screens set to that resolution.

So I'm curious as to what the majority thinks? I have a few possible options.

1) Make the text smaller
2) Make the whole site smaller
3) Make two versions of the site that you can choose from
4) Enable the old version of the site at an alternative location so people can choose which version they prefer
5) Ignore the dissenting voices and leave as is.

Ideas? Suggestions? Thoughts?

I think the site as a whole looks fine.

But I'd say the front page logo and top menu is too big.

And the forum text size is too big too.

I'm not too fussed by text size.

I think the new layout is good. I'm running at 1680x1050 which is a bit silly anyway I suppose.

I suppose I would, for personal experiment reasons, recommend giving the site more space horizontally since the eyes capture more information and faster horizontally rather than vertically. At least I think they do. Though this is probably better for presentations than websites.....

ignore me, I've been told I have less holiday than I thought I did.

I'd say reduce the text size by 10%, or have a button that changes the style sheet like you see on some sites to choose your own font size.

1) I'd say.

The new design is very purty, but it'd be nice if the text was a bit more work-standard/friendly size. Though pressing 'Command -' works just as well I suppose.

Text is too big. At work we run 1,024x768, I imagine a lot of offices do.

My laptop is only 1024x768 and the top logo, banner and menu area take up just under half my available browser window. I'd make them slightly smaller myself, maybe trimming about 10 or 20 px off. Doesn't have to be much, just enough so it doesn't dominate. Don't have an issue with the text size.

Don't bother with options 3 and 4, or you'll risk ending up with the same crappy situation that other place had where you end up with two different sets of bugs, one for the new design, the other for the old. Stick with the one (new) site.

My only concern is that when someone posts an inevitable "A guide to sucking cocks" thread or a "Last nigth I fucked a chicken" thread then it'll be much more visible to colleagues walking past my desk.

The solution to that problem is an auto censoring filter but I'm reluctant to do that.

/starts stop watch

Let's see how long it takes for at least one of those to appear. I suppose this place is slightly more sensible so minutes rather than seconds?

Oh and the above suggestion of a 10% reduction seems like a fair suggestion.

I don't really have a problem with the text size (although I'd have gone for something smaller) but as quedex said, the header imagery is massive. On the front page, the 'Latest News' section is below the fold (with my browser resized to 1024x768) which doesn't make much sense to me...

Still, a nice job; feels fresh.

I'm reluctant to have that too! What I'd like is some sort of censoring plug-in for firefox, but I've yet to find one.

I love the big text.. running 1280x1024 at home, and 1900x1200 at work.

The top logo could be smaller if you have to change anything.

So it sounds like as I suspected, anyone who runs 1280 x 1024 or above has no problem with the site, but those who are still in the dark ages and run their screens 1024 x 768 do have a problem.

However I accept the criticisms of the logo/header being slightly on the large size - I might well change that.

As I'm on a (widescreen) laptop a lot of the time, I could do with a bit smaller. FWIW, my average browser window is 960x930, with a client area of 864x726.

I'd go along with that, maybe the Hardware buttons could be the same size as the All About the Games type under the logo.

Personally I still design sites for 1024x768.

Well, my screen is running 1680x1050 but my browser window is usually considerably smaller...

I'm on 1280x1024 and I think it's a bit weird. Some of the things like the images are big and the text is small.

I like it though, it's unusual.

IMO the forum text is too big and the logo at the top is twice the size it needs to be!

Definitely makes reading the site at work a lot more restrictive.

I think the header and the text are a bit on the large side but it's just personal preference. At work I use a dual monitor setup with both at 1024x768 so it's pretty huge, but even at 1440x900 at home it all feels a bit... chunky.

Great job though Hairy.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this. AATG is no longer work-friendly. A smaller text and logo would definitely help the forum (I don't suppose anything can be done about the big animated ad towers? ;-).

I'm running at 1920x1200 on a 24 inch widescreen monitor and i like the redesign but the header images are a bit too big, brash and shouty for my liking and i also use ctrl - to lower the text size down a bit and make it less shouty and more work friendly.

Good work, hairy. The site does feel cleaner now, just a bit loud. :)
