I love how the screens almost look like paintings sometimes, due to the artstyle and lighting.

Ooh, cheers Lou. Bioshock seems to be one of those games that doesn't photograph well, as it were. Screenies rarely look very good IMHO, but it looks stunning in motion.

Perhaps it's their insistence on releasing action shots recently, which don't really do anything for me. My favourite shot so far is this one: Linky

Would it be so wrong to play some disco music to go with that?

Ooh, very pretty. Somehow, though, I can't help feeling a little disappointed. I remember first seeing shots of the Big Daddies and lost girls (or whatever they're called) and I guess my hype gland went into spasm.

But add a hand holding a gun into the picture, and suddently it's just meh, another horror FPS. Or at least that's the temptation. I guess it's just hype levels normalising.

/massive bump from the past...

I've just got this and playing through it. It's not aged too well, which was a supprise to me, as so many people still rave on about it.

(sigh) I remember when UncleLou and Doc Haggard used to post here...

;_;

Still stoked for the sequel. Have been on an information blackout as much as possible but I note with interest that the original game is getting the usual "18 months on and now I hate it" slagging.

I wouldn't say I hate it, it's quite compelling to be honest.

But when I saw the 'Unreal Engine' splash screen, I remembered it was going to be what it is going to be. this was reaffirmed when I looked around the plane crash site and the skybox was one of the worst I'd ever seen, and it suffered terribly from the repeating waves pattern which more recent games have fixed using various clever techniques.

Yeah, it's shaping up to be a fine game, just graphically, it's aged so quickly.

I think it succeeded for me because the art direction / environments just immersed me in the game to the point where I didn't notice wonky special effects like that. First time through, there was that genuine sense of fear - and the sense that you could die at any second.
