Just downloaded the trailer for this off the PS Store, well snazzy. I hope it plays as nice as it looks, leaping around from rooftop to rooftop looks tops.

Looks frickin' incredible. I get a really strong Snow Crash vibe from it, which is no bad thing what with that being my fave book ever and all ;-)

Given how nippy you are, I'm interested to know just how big the game world will be. Needs to be fairly sizeable to get the most out of the mechanics.

In short: I'm worried it's a four hour game. Again.

LBP phoned and told you to book an optician's appointment.

I said game, as in the actual gameplay. LBP has a strong, consistent visual style and will no doubt appeal to people who enjoy booking their face or whatever, but the gameplay looks a) dull and b) old.

edit: allow me to clarify. *If* the devs include a superb single player platformer, then fantastic, I'll happily take a word sandwich to go. If (as it appears to me) they are relying on their "ingeneous" idea of user created levels, I couldn't be less excited if they were trying to resell me Pit Fighter upgraded to include EA's Photo Game Face (actually, that's unfair, as that would be a superb idea).

*Thank you*

It seems to be the latest "ooh, if you don't like this you're dead inside" game, for no reason other than some cute little textures and the ability to make inevitably low quality levels for yourself.

I'd say I'm more excited about this than LBP too.

I want LBP to be great but I'm concerned that it's going to get played for a couple of evenings then get put down for good. The 1up yours podcast was saying that the original plan was for levels made by the players of beta to ship with the game as the game (if I understood their explanation correctly). So I'm not 100% confident about there being a stellar ready made game in the box. Looking forward to messing around with it, but worried.

I'm intrigued about it but I don't see what everyone else does. I've not actually seen any "game" get shown off.

Mirror's Edge does indeed look fantastic. Whether they can pull it off in the proper game though is another matter entirely. I've got a feeling it won't be quite as freeform as suggested in that trailer.

It has a nice clean look and I like the overall art direction, but you could tell that form the trailers already, I guess. The audio is pretty good, really sounds like you are in a big city.
The controls are very easy, also you might have to get used to it first since jumping crouching and hitting and kicking is done by pressing the shoulder button.
I think, unlike it has been written on a certain page, you don't die that often and it's not really trial and error. The colour coding always makes it quiet clear where you have to go. In the case that you do misjudge a gap and die (Lovely crushing bone soundeffect right there:)) you get set back pretty much instantaneously and not too far from where you were before.
The fighting feels a little awkward, but then you don't really have to fight (in the demo anyway).
Overall, I'd say it's a good game, but I'm not sure whether it can keep on impressing after a few hours, because as far as I can tell all you will be doing in the game is run away and jump from building to building, which is not a bad thing in itself (actually it's really cool, if you manage to run through the level in one smooth go), but it might get a bit repetitive after a while. So I hope the level design is good and varied.

Edit: Oh, and it's really cool to be able to see you feet. More of this my dear game making people. It's only a little touch (which probably not easy to make^^) but it helps a lot. And it so much better than being a floating camera with arms.

Is this up on Live too ? I cracked and bought new 360 last night so that I can fence one of them on when mine comes back from the menders.

I bloody love it. It's got a really nice gameplay feel to it. Once it 'clicks', the control method is actually really nice and extensible and there wasn't nearly enough combat in the demo to let me exercise some of the niftier moves in the tutorial.

The free-running bits are breathtakingly good though, specially when you get a 'flow' between one obstacle or jump and the next.

Preordered it on the strength of the demo, simply because it feels so fresh. It's like a PROPERLY done Oni, but with far more stylish art direction and gameplay.

Prince of Persia can go to hell, this is a far far better game.

EA really must've sold their souls to Santa this year.

It feels a bit like a modern take on Sands of Time in first person perspective, but without the fighting. And the time. And the sand.

I wouldn't want to preorder it purely on the strength of the demo though. I think it could be a good idea to wait for the impression after a week or two, to see whether it's good all the way through or just more of the same.

Outrageous! Sands of Time is an utter classic! :)

Anyway, I absolutely fecking love this demo, it's just so satisfying stringing together a sequence of moves, particularly if you can finish a sequence by kicking one of the cops in the face. :) And just like SoT, it always feels like you're improvising your own route across the level, even though really you're just following a carefully designed (and largely linear) route. One other thing I like about it that I've not seen anyone else mention is the atmosphere - between the intro video and the minimalist visuals and audio in-game, it gives it this otherworldly but still somehow familiar feel.

Played the demo at work yesterday but I'm downloading it this morning to give it another go at home, and honestly I can't remember the last time I wanted to play a demo twice. Fantastic stuff.

I played it earlier and while it's admittedly way too short a demo, what I did play left me really thirsty for more and I'm really looking forward to it.

In fact I'd say it and Left4Dead are now my two dead certs for November.

Couldn't care less about Left 4 Dead. Even reading the preview here, I couldn't see it finding its way into my preorder list.

This though, I'm hooked on the demo - even to the point where I'll play through the tutorials (Retroid's right about the unskippable stuff being a right bark though) just to give myself a few minutes more playtime.

I even had a go at the four goons just to see if I could take on multiple aggressors but I think four's too many to take on at a time. Good fun though.

One thing that's surprised me a little. In direct comparisons, the PS3 version actually "feels" better (probably because the L1 button on the SIXAXIS is far nicer than the shitty LB button on the 360 pad and you use it a lot).

Otherwise they're virtually identical in pretty much every respect.

Really like it a lot and this has actually become the most hotly anticipated title for Nov (aside from LBP of course)
