Really enjoyed messing about with the Far Cry 1 level editor, and Far Cry 2's looks like a decent upgrade on that.

The single player freedom sounds ace as well, high hopes for this.

Want this to be good... Just as long as the aiming isn't as broken as the first one (on 360).

This'll be a PC job for me. Hated the two Far Cry console efforts so I'm thinking this will definitely have to be one title I go PC for.

The PC and console versions weren't the same game, aren't they all the same this time?

Out the same day as Fable 2, isn't it?

Gotta love the feast or famine approach of console releases.

Allegedly so. Which is either good news or bad news depending on which side of the E-Peen fence you sit.

Ubisoft owned the rights to Far Cry and its engine, all the console games were made my other development teams.

An entirely new team were formed to make Far Cry 2 and the first thing they did was make the Dunia engine to run the game, it was made from scratch with multi-core PCs and the 360/PS3 in mind, so the game is the same in all versions with just performance changes to get the most out of each version.

Wonder if the system specs will be as crippling as Crysis?

Ladies and Gentlemen, this game rules so hard it should come packaged with its own senate and civil apparatus. I've just been playing a pretty-much finished debug build and it's just, well... great. We'll see what the next twenty hours holds but it's a strong GOTY candidate for me.

Sounds promising. I really need to get the first one reinstalled and finished. I never even reached the mutants :-/

Anything in particular that makes it stand out from all the other shiny FPSes on the market?

It's partly because it does the whole swanky it's-first-person-but-you-have-a-real-body thing - when you heal, you actually see yourself tearing bits of shrapnel out of your limbs.

But mostly it's just the undergrowth, and what you can do with it. Which boils down to two things: hide in it (while revelling at the spectacular detail and real-time shadowing, of course) and set fire to it.

What does the game run like bill? As demanding as Crysis?

Only got the 360 code so can't comment on the PC versions, but it's probably going to need something power-hungry... Maybe not as much as Crysis though.

How's it looking on the 360? Setting a new benchmark or at least up to the quality of gears/Halol 3?

I'd say it's a new benchmark given that everything streams from the disc - there's some minor but noticeable pop-in and enemy NPCs are a bit ropey. The shadows and vegetation are, as that bloke on EG's been claiming, utterly sick - it's worth adopting the stealthy approach just so you can stick your head in the shrubbery.

The thing looks and runs better than Fallout 3, in my opinion. No tearing or framerate dives either.

I've been ignoring the game until this recent marketing and PR push that's just started.

What I've seen is very impressive. It's like Crytek looked at Far Cry, looked at Stalker:SoC and and said, "We can improve on these." and did so.

Indeed, no mutants or aliens!

After watching an early version in action at Play.com Live I'm rather keen on getting this, it looked fab. PC version of course. :-)

Should be great when they sort out a no-CD crack then.

I didn't think Crytek were involved in this one?

edit: I fail for leaving reply windows for multiple threads open for too long.

You're supposed to reply "Are Crytek even involved in this?", or something. Although yours is also pretty good.

Funnily enough it sounds almost exactly like one of my 'if only' game ides from when I was 12.

...only with better graphics.

...and being set in Africa rather than in the nature reserve behind my house.

You used to daydream about pulling bullets out of your legs, succumbing to malaria and getting shotgunned by bastard paramilitaries?

Where'd you grow up? West Yorkshire?
