Been looking at a few release schedules around the net. Seems to be an awfully eclectic mix of old movies being brought out on the new format... so, I got to thinking what films would I really, really hope to see in the future. Bearing in mind I'm determined not to re-buy stuff I already own on DVD (yeah, some hope), here's what I'm really hoping to see... with plenty of extras:

The Thing.
Exorcists I and III
The Seven Samurai
Jaws
LA Confidential
Iron Man (I know it's coming, but I can't wait!)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Event Horizon
Alien/Aliens (What is taking so long?!)
The Changeling
Session 9
...and a ton of war movies (Thin Red Line, Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, etc)

Et tu?

I'm hoping for a cheaper Blu Ray player.

167 with free disc too much for ya? ;-)

The kit is definitely starting to get reasonable now, I'm sure we're only a few months away from different manufacturers joining in and getting the price closer to the 100 mark.

Firmware updates... surely that raises the PS3 above such stand-alones, though?

In theory, all of the profile 1.1 or 2.0 players should be firmware upgradable. In practice though, you might find the standalone players only get fixes.

There was a Sony player mentioned in Stuff this month, which they were very excited about. Firstly, it's the latest bluray standard (2.0 ?), secondly it's fully updatable via the internet, per PS3, and thirdly it's just come out in the States for $250.

Oh, and I know it's lining his pockets even more, but I'm still waiting for that fabled 'Archival Edition' boxset of the Star Wars movies.

If we ignore the fact that I really need to wait to get the money to buy a player...

Fight Club
Se7en
Spaghetti Western trilogy

...would do me nicely.

Or trying to digitally manipulate existing stuff to change the story, and making it look terrible in the process :D

<sad pedant>
Small technicality: 2.0 isn't the latest standard. Both Profile 1.1 and 2.0 were part of the original spec, the only difference between them is support for BD-Live and needing at least 1GB storage for all the fancy stuff you'll likely be downloading with your BD-Live discs.

You just need to be careful not to end up with a profile 1.0 player, which was just created as a cut down version for first gen hardware, and might have issues playing current (or future) discs.

:D, yeah, I might be wrong on the 2.0 - I couldn't actually remember for sure, and I can't check because the missus keeps chucking out my mags !

Let's start with the obvious - Pixar's back catalog, which is coming, but not quickly enough for my liking.

And the not so obvious - Steven Segal's back catalog.

I'd really like the Jericho series on blu-ray as MS started blocking IPs before I finished watching them all off the video marketplace.

Not yet guv. See up a bit for my wishlist. I suspect that this is what will eventually get released on bluray, but no sign as yet.

Anyone tried the Blu Ray of Sweeney Todd? I'm quite keen to see the film, and I'm wondering if it's one that really deserves to be seen in HD.
