So thinks Frank Miller.

Can't say I'm massively convinced but then I've only seen a couple of his films so couldn't really judge whether he'd work or not.

It'd probably work for a DKR film. He could at least do a better Bat-voice than Bale.

For DKR perhaps, but I dunno - he's a bit too goofy, is Stallone. Batman needs more spark, IMO. And higher cheekbones.

Clint Eastwood was always the fans wetdream for the Dark Knight wasn't he? He must be far too old now.

After they made George Clooney Batman it really doesn't sound so bad.

Eric Bana would be a good choice if Bale needed replacing. But I can't really think of an old Batman. Bruce Willis, Ron Pearlman?

I can't think of many older gentlemen with the required coolness to do it. Des Lynam perhaps?

Pearlman would be the closest I could think of physically for DKR Batman. Stallone's too small, plus he's too old now, even for DKR-era.

To be honest I can't see DKR ever working on screen. I don't think there's anyone who could actually pull the character off well enough.

If this was 1990, Stacey Keach would've been great.

I think an animated DKR would have been sweet. Preferably put together by the guys who did Akira.

As regards an ageing real-life Batman - I'd suggest Hugh Jackman but he's a bit on the young side, and rather cheesy to boot.

The Dark Knight Returns; a comic book classic by Frank Miller (Sin City, 300) in which an old and weary Batman comes out of retirement and kicks arse.

Not to be confused with the woeful sequel; DK2.

My vote would go to Perlman or Tom Selleck (after seeing Tom on Las Vegas I'm convinced he could pull off an good DK)

Maybe Vin Diesel as the leader of the gang of baldies (forgotten their name). Sam Elliot as Commissioner Gordon.

I always had it in mind that Clint Eastwood wouldn't be too far gone to do Batman as in DKR. Stallone's too fucked up, though seeing Rambo recently did make me think he's an actor who knows exactly what he's good at, and sticks to it.

Donald Sutherland would also work I reckon, as Gordon.

Good call on Donald Sutherland. Eastwood would be a good choice for the old Batman but it would require an extremely high level of fitness to play the Batman part. Stallone would be as good as Batman as he was in Judge Dredd.

If they did it then I suspect nearly all the action would have to be done by a younger guy, even some of the more basic fighting scenes.
