Hi all,

New member here, a forummer recommended I sign up to ask this so here goes...

Does anyone know about cross compatibility of 'instruments' between Guitar Hero and Rock Band? And if you were to get one, which would you recommend?

Cheers

Rock Band just became compatible with the GH3 Les Paul.

And as someone who took advantage of that by buying a Les Paul for Rock Band, I highly recommend it.

GH games aren't compatible with Rock Band stuff.

GH4 and Rock Band 2 will be completely cross-compatible.

As for the 360, I'm not so sure.

Thanks NewYork, I was mainly asking for the future games so that's really useful!

Yeah, Rock Band 2 will work with the GH4 stuff, so you can rest in the knowledge that you've got the best kit ;-P

Semi-related question, but does anyone know if the GH4 guitars are going to have the same auto-callibration magic that the RB2 ones are getting?

GH4 and RB2 cross-compatibility is on 360 too. The 360's GH3 Les Paul also works fine in Rock Band.

Yup Sony led the charge but Microsoft have also said that all future "Guitar / Rock" games, as well as Konami's upcoming stuff, will all feature cross-compatible instruments. Should be interesting to see how the business model for all the new GH games works out. At least we won't all have to buy new gear every frickin' time which is something at least.

Oh and welcome 20p Kid!

As this thread happens to be called Rock Band v Guitar Hero, let me state where I stand:

Rock Band > Guitar Hero.

Mainly 'cos I've made my choice and must live with it. Also 'cos Rock Band still has its dignity and intergrity preserved, while Guitar Hero has been transformed into a filthy prostitute.

True - I'm not a huge fan of the GH aesthetic, anyway.

But as for cross-compatibility, doesn't GH4 use 6 separate drum inputs (3 drums, two separately coloured cymbals and foot pedal) while RB only has 5?

That'll kinda make you handicapped trying to play GH4 with RB kit, won't it?

They merge certain drum tracks to cater for Rock Band simpletons ;-)

Hmm, I bet a lot of love and care goes into that merging, too. :D (Just like I'm sure a lot of love and care goes into GH track layouts in the first place :P)

Oh well, at least I'll be safe in the knowledge that I won't be supporting the promotion of sexual deviants. Oh yes I went there.

actually prefer Guitar Hero at this stage.

GH is more lenient in how easy the hammer ons and pull offs are to play and it's all the more satisfying for it. I also much prefer circular notes as opposed to rectangles.

And finally, I'm with York in that the GH controller is far superior.

A serious plus for GH is the music creator. Apparently if works OK when using the packaged instruments but last night Activision confirmed the PS3 version will accept MIDI tracks from any PC music application. That makes things a *hell* of a lot easier

The Rock Band instruments are a bit shoddy. I thought the drums were pretty flimsy feeling so I didn't try to play them properly...and the guitar's hateful compared to the sublime GH III Xbox 360 wireless one (not just because I'm a massive Gibson fan either).

Mind you, the Konami stuff looks alright. Weird drum set though.

That's wierd Hairy, as I find RB much more forgiving - the way the solos are arranged seems more logical to me. On GH the 'missed note' markdown is horrifically skewed on the hard and expert levels.

6 drum pads + a kick pedal.

BTW, Rock Revolution's singing portion has been axed. The game no longer has its own guitar (you have to bring your own). And its drums will come out a month after the game. It's dooooomed!
