Pap would indeed be my word of choice, but I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it running as it looks like it could look substantially better in motion.

Welcome to the site, too, M_M.

Ah well, never mind, GTA2 looked much better. I'm sure they could have made a port of that engine work quite nicely on the DS.

Don't all DS games look pap from screenshots?

Actually, I think it looks pretty cool and is stylised enough to stand out so could be decent.

Huh, no classic top down view? Shame. :(

Screens do indeed look a bit bad, but like others have said hopefully it will be better in motion, with great frame-rates + animation.

But the info about the game has got me interested, especially since it looks like it will have a Phantom Hourglass-level of touch-screen implementation.

Also liked the bit about 'tasteful' minigames. I wonder what that could be in reference to? :)

Looks great to me! Reminds me of some N64 shooter game which name escapes me...

That'll look sweet on a DS screen.

Scans.

Holy moly, they don't appear to have skimped on anything (within reason), judging by that article.

Just saw a trailer with proper gameplay and it looks like it could be good.
I still thing the top down GTAs were the best.

I think they've gone with a sensible viewpoint, good angle to see what's actually in front of you (where the originals royally sucked at this) but technically not pushing the DS beyond its limits. Nice videos on gametrailers.

I'll have to gerrit, despite still having a crappy old phatboy DS.

My only worry with GTA on the DS is the same worry I had with GTA on the PSP. Extended sessions on it are really going to fuck my hands up.

This is going to be mainly stylus-based though, iirc - not sure if that'll be good or bad for your hands. :)

The main prob I have with the DS is with anything that uses the shoulder buttons. Not too fussed about stylus based stuff, that's fine - but anything that uses combinations of the face buttons and shoulder buttons can be (literally) a real pain.

I'll still pick it up though mainly because I'm such a GTA hoebag I've got every single game (even the old stuff and the sublime GTA London 1969 pack)

Getting quite a good critical reception from those who've yo-hoed it.

Ordered anyway simply because I'm a rabid GTA completist.

Yeah, at that price I folded. I don't think I've bought a DS game in a year.

I would too, if the DS wasn't so expensive (compared to say a 360...) and the last GTA wasn't a complete disappointment (and that got good marks all around). On the other hand I liked the top down version much better.

I enjoyed GTA IV more than any GTA before it. I know that probably puts me in the minority, but I really liked it.

Very interested in this. Which is odd, as I wasn't the slightest bit interested in this until the other day.

I'd be excited, except the shoulder buttons on both my and my brother's DSs aren't working, and I'm guessing this game uses every single button possible, and extensively.

Shame, it looks neat.

One hour in and I'm staggered by just how good this is. They've done an incredible job and the game world is teeming with life and things to do.

GTA4 really was a bit empty, wasn't it?

Yes, yes it was. I mean there lots of things going on, but nothing that involved you or had any influence on you.

So apparently it only sold around 89k units... I don't remember a GTA selling so bad since maybe GTA Advance. :(

Blimey, and one of them was me. Problem is, most people I see 'on the street' with DS's are teenage girls wth Animal Crossing, and pensioners with Brain Training. Not really their demographic.

IIRC I don't think it uses the shoulder buttons at all, quite a feat. I could be wrong though, I haven't given it nearly enough love yet.

It does use the shoulders for a few functions, you can get by without using them except for maybe one of the tutorial missions.

Seriously can't remember using 'em in most of the missions I've played so far but then I hate the shoulder buttons on the phatboy anyway.
