As Nintendo recently announced that certain GameCube games will be re-released on the Wii with the controls tweaked to suit the Wii remote, it got me wondering just how far they'll take this.

Which games would you like to see re-released?

Zelda Wind Waker is an obvious one for me as its graphics are timeless and even today it still looks stunning.

Then there's Mario Golf and Tennis which would be awesome with Wii Remote implementation.

And then other candidates off the top of my head are: Viewtiful Joe, 1080 Snowboarding, Super Mario Sunshine, F-Zero GX Mario Kart.

Hmmm. Chibi-Robo perhaps.

Not sure about Mario Tennis though (thought that was awful), F-Zero GX (nothing like the SNEX or N64 versions), 1080 (original was better) and Mario Kart Double Dash, which is the worst Mario Kart I've ever played.

Mario Sunshine was fantastic, still my favourite Mario game in 3D (controversial opinion I know) but I can't see how having wiimote controls would help it.

Wind Waker is a no-brainer though, what with the wand and everything. Again, I preferred Wind Waker over Twilight Princess, which I thought was an overly long, drawn out disappointment.

If they remade Mario Sunshine with the camera locked behind Mario (which would fix 90% of my problems with the game... and all the 3D Mario games, now I think of it) aiming the squirt cannon with the Wiimote might be an interesting way to implement it.

Really wish Nintendo would even attempt some new IP though, rather than just flogging the same old things again and again and again.

I can see Luigi's Mansion being a lot of fun with the Wiimote.

Ooh yes, good call. I like Luigi's Mansion anyway (never did get the panning it got from people) but controlling with the Wiimote would be awesome, actually.

Agree with Hughes though. Try something new Ninty.

But the whole game is designed around free camera control... granted, it didn't work some of the time but taking it away altogether wouldn't be a good idea at all.

Personally, I'm not a fan of this whole re-releasing GC games with Wii controls business. Yes, there are a select few games for which it could work well - Zelda: Wind Waker (a bit of a no-brainer actually, as TP was ace with the Wii remote) and, from what I've read, Pikmin. But how the hell are, for example, F-Zero GX or 1080 going to benefit? Some games are perfect as they are with the standard controller, there's no need for motion control or pointer functionality. Not to mention it seems like an extremely cheap tactic to fill up the shelves with 'proper' Wii games (why not just make proper Wii sequels for the games instead?)

Although it goes without saying that Mario Golf, Tennis etc. would be great - if they went the whole hog and incorporated a Wii Sports-level of control. But I very much doubt that'll happen.

Bit of a shame. Ah well, unless they're sufficiently different graphically, or have a few extra bonuses they can stay put.

Not that I've got a Wii and I don't really care but I think the only thing you can say about such pricing is that Nintendo are a bunch of cunts.

Well, the re-releases will have a few tweaks along with the motion control functionality. Not sure if we'll be seeing any extras or bonuses, though I doubt it.

But full-price - if it is indeed '40' full-price - is beyond a pisstake. I would have expected them to be around 25 at the most, even taking into account the fact that this is Nintendo we're talking about. It just reinforces the point I made earlier in this thread, that it's a lazy way for Nintendo to fill the shelves and avoid having to make proper Wii sequels.

Thing is, if you DO ever find a copy of something like Pikmin 2 on cube in a gamestore anywhere, it's probably still priced up at 40 even on the cube.

As I've said before, Nintendo just doesn't "Do" discount stuff, whether you're talking about Wii Store stuff or DS / GBA reboots of older Nintendo titles, or in this case, hastily rejigged cube games. They seem to sell regardless of Ninty's bizarre pricing strategy so as long as the money rolls in why should they care?

The retailers were wrong yesterday it seems, the RRP is likely to be 29.99 - so hopefully that should mean 25 (or possibly below) online prices.

Still not ideal, but I can now see myself picking up Mario Tennis if the motion controls turn out to be any good - which is what I'm expecting, seeing as it's a 1st-party Nintendo game.

The Japanese site has got me tempted by these.

Pikmin looks like it works as you'd hope with joystick for moving your guy and pointing the remote where you want to chuck pikmin. I've still not played a Pikmin game so now might be the time.

Mario Tennis looks like it might be a worthwhile update with different motions letting you spin etc.

They're reasonably priced here at 3800yen (which was 18 before the pound meltdown)

Mario Tennis is the one that's got me potentially buckling. Cube version was great.

I think out of the games in my cube collection I really don't want to see much updated and dicked about with just to stick new controls on (if that's all that they're doing, judging by the footage it is). But yeah Pikmin 2 would be nice.

I think they should re-release RE4 for the Wii. And do the job properly this time.

The cheesy Star Wars fanboi in me says they should do at least one Wii version of the better Factor 5 SW games.

Not sure what else though. I know I've got a lot of cube stuff stacked away in the cupboard but tbh apart from Pikmin 2, I've not touched any of the stuff recently.

Yeah but they're talking about a "sweet spot" of 29.99

Which is pretty much the price you'd expect to pay for Wii stuff bar some of the first party "milk-a-thon" titles

Never played any of the Pikmins, or Mario Tennis on the GC, so like I said if the prices are good I'll probably pick them up. Pikmin in particular I've always wanted to try, and now would be the perfect opportunity to do so it would seem.

I traded in Super Monkeyball (the original cube versh) for Pikmin and the bloke in Game said "Hah, you'll hate it, it'll be back tomorrow"

I pointed out that I was returning SMB because it was a bore-o-thon and he maintained that I was some sort of a mentalist, and I'd find no enjoyment whatsoever in Pikmin.

As it turns out I thought it was easily one of the Cube's standout titles. Shows what Game employees know :)

I recently sold my USA Copy of Pikmin 2 for 26quid on ebay so it just shows you how well Cube games hold their prices.

Pikmin came out soon after the GC launch didn't it? I remember being put off by the reviews that said it was too short and slightly flawed, which didn't seem like good value to me at the time.

I'll have to strongly disagree with your opinion on SMB, by the way - I still think it's fantastic, and I'd put in my all-time top twenty.
