I'm flabergasted by how shit it is.

I had to turn it off before the end of my first match as it annoyed me so much.

It's like trying to play football on graph paper, and as someone on EG put it in an analogy I can't possibly better, it's like playing with one of those 99p footballs you buy from Woolworths!

:)

Weird how things have shifted.

At the risk of enraging Stevas though, I can safely say that I thought the series went off the ball (see what I did there) after the N64 version of ISS...

SNES ISS for me, Peej. FIFA 07 (the last one on the Xbox) was incredible though. Ran at 720P, included a full management mode and had live news tickers and whatnot running. Not only that but it was FUN!

I've not played any footie game since PES 5. But you can tell just by looking at the FIFA games that they get progressively better over the last 4 years.

All I hear about PES is that it isn't evolving and where it does it usually breaks something.

That's the crux of it for me, the F Word. Fun. Basically I know bugger all about footie but love footie games - so if the game's a heck of a lot of fun, I'm willing to forgive it having a shite commentary or weird names on the roster.

The last FIFA I played was OK, the last PES I played looked like it'd seriously lost its direction.

But what do I know, I actually thought FIFA Street 3 was OK.

Shoot me now.

Peej, I thought you detested football?

Edit: Ah, you hate footie but enjoy the games.

But yeah, SNES ISS Deluxe - best football game ever.

S'right I don't "do" footie but I love footie games. I can only put it down to being a big Sensi fan (back in the day) and also loving stuff like NHL games and Speedball (1 and 2)

So to me any footie game that mimics the sort of gameplay in those = WIN

Oddly enough, I love playing footie (the real thing), I'm just absolutely shit at it. Watching televised sport of any kind (except ice hockey or F1) is like having teeth pulled though.

This pretty much.

I'm absolutely addicted to FIFA 09 at the moment. There are so many modes to play and that's before you go online where there are even more. It plays a good game too.

You guys might actually be the best people to ask. Is there a relatively stripped down mode in FIFA where you can just play a straight championship without the need for team tweaking or management stuff etc? Basically just "pick a team, play a bunch of games, try and win a cup" sort of thing?

I don't know for sure but there should be, it's been the staple game mode of many a footie game.

Its one of the things that's started to grate about the NHL games. There's no straight up "tournament mode" as such, they just seem to go with exhibition and full season modes. Not interested in something that involving, but would like to play something like 10 games as a championship or something of that ilk.

Hey ho, sounds more and more like I'd enjoy FIFA 2009 though, all the same. Don't suppose anyone's crazy enough to want to swap it for Lego Batman are they?

Wierd that FIFA and PES have swapped in the last 2 or 3 versions so that FIFA is the po-faced one and PES is the arcadey one. Pro Devo ?

PES hasn't been any good since PES 4 and that wasn't as good as PES 3. If they sorted out the online then I would at least consider giving it a go but it was so bad on the last two versions that I can't really be bothered to try it, especially when FIFA is pretty good these days.

Yeah, I played the demo of this and I thought it was absolutely abysmal. I couldn't wait for the match to end.
