Just had a wander into HMV and noticed their 2nd hand shelves are now stocked. I'm guessing the trade-in prices aren't great, if only because their 2nd hand prices are actually pretty reasonable O_O

One notable bonus is that games can be traded in towards *anything* that HMV sell. Games, DVD, BluRay, concert tickets, iPods and even.... CDs :-D

Fog a giggle I thought I'd see what they were offering for a brand new 360 game (not released 2 weeks).

A fiver. For a reasonably high profile 360 game. So don't get excited that it's going to be a road to riches.

Best advice is that they seem to have a lot of Wii and DS stuff going cheap, so buy those up and trade 'em in at Game at a premium :)

Wii stuff is dirt cheap everywhere now.

GAME are selling Nights for £7.99, currys had metroid for a tenner.

Soon they'll be giving wii games away :)

You might get slightly more at GAME. Slightly more. I think 360 stuff's a bit of a duff trade in at the moment, bit annoying that.

Trading is a mug's game at the moment. I couldn't believe it when less than a month after purchase, Game offered me £28 for GH3 when I could see they were selling pre-owned copies for £60.

Playtrade's working far far better for me - they take 5% commission and you have to factor in postage but you still end up with MUCH fairer prices

Tell me more Rhythm.

Do you basically 'sell' your games to play.com?

TBH I'd NEVER trade anything I'd paid for, and most promos aren't tradeable so I end up keeping 'em or giving 'em away. It really is a mugs game. Some stuff does seem to do OK traded in at Game (ie wii or ds stuff) but by and large you're wasting your time with any last gen stuff, or PS3 / 360 titles as all the usual suspects take the piss with their trade-in prices.

Not quite - you end up using Play as a "storefront" of sorts for stuff you have to sell.

Let's say Play is selling GRID for £30. You click on "I have one to sell" and list the condition of it as well as the price you want for it - you have to pay postage (about £1.30 for a game at the mo) and they'll take a 5% fee.

What happens next is that someone might be looking for GRID, see that Play are selling for £30 but there's a Playtrade copy (yours) listed as "good condition" for £27.50. If they buy yours you get an email saying it's been bought, and giving the address you have to send to. Send it out (within 2 days) and mark it as "sent" on your account and your Play account is ~£25 better off.

It's probably a bit clunky for some but it's helped me get rid of stuff that would have gone for tuppence at trade stores and made sure I actually saw a decent return on it. Unlike Peej I can't stand having more than 10-15 games in the house at any one time :-)

That's point. Even console stuff, I'm starting to wonder why I horde games. It's not like I ever play them or plan to. :/ I really need to be strong and have a clean out. I daren't count all the games I have. :(
