Thought I would create a new thread to talk about MC:LA rather than continuing to make NFS look popular by using that one.

My cheap copy should be here today or tomorrow. Would be up for some multiplayer at the weekend once I have some practice in.

Anybody else fancy some games?

Yes please!

Really haven't played much of the multiplayer except for games against random intarnet types. If you stick to particular classes of car, it should mean that people can bling their rides up a bit but not gain any distinct advantage in races so it should be quite cool.

MCLA is ten times the game NFS is! (Sorry, I mentioned it again didn't I)

I think Whizzo also grabbed it cheap so hopefully he would be up for a game and there are a couple of others on EG that might be interested. I will post there when I actually have the game in my possession.

Good stuff. I could do with getting back into it (basically some of the races I've got opened up in single player are ball-breakingly hard for my crappy car) so multiplayer antics might do the job nicely.

Is this better/more fun than either PGR3/4 or Burnout Paradise? I have loads of racing games already but if there's something in this that'll make me keep playing then I need to place an order.

Midnight Club 3 was ace so I'm half tempted by this but by the time I get out of this cast I'm going to have a huge backlog to catch up with... :-(

PS3 version's comparable to the 360 version so once again at least you're not getting a duff conversion if you do get it on PS3.

Is it better than Burnout Paradise? I think so, but then I didn't really get my head around BP online or off. It's a different kettle of fish to the PGRs. More arcade-like (if that makes sense). I'm struggling to think of a better game series to compare it to, but the Midnight Club games have always carved out their own unique niche in the driving games market. Very arcadey so they feel instantly approachable. Very quick and speedy so you get a good sense of speed, and very slickly produced so you get a real sense that you're actually taking part in illicit street racing rather than just bowling along in an empty city.

As Whizzo said, first thing that'll strike you is just how populated the place feels - and how this seems to have little or no effect whatsoever on just how feckin' quick everything moves (including the cops).

Hella tough though so if you're the sort of person who likes to blitz every single race you enter in a game, don't touch it.

Sounds like 20 won't be a waste then :)

Play.com are back to 40 but amazon are now at 20 for both formats - strange price changes.

This is very very good, even better than I was expecting. It feels like a cross between the PC versions of Midtown Madness crossed with bits of Burnout 2, GTA and the (rare) decent parts of the NFS games.

It also gets bonus points for having good tracks on the soundtrack after you filter the gangsta shit out. Beck = yay.

Wait! Good, as in non-gangsta music, in a street racing game?

o/

Consider it bought.

(At some undefinable time in the future.)

Hmm, Play'd better send me my copy. Ordered it Tuesday, website says sent out Tuesday (miracle!), but there's no email to confirm. I hope it turns up (preferably tomorrow).

The default music is full of that shite but if you do the custom soundtrack, there's at least 9 or 10 that are very good.

There's a bit of Beck, Chemical Brothers, Feeder, NIN, Holy Fuck and a few others that are good enough to not make blood come out of my ears.

For anyone in northern ireland this is currently Xtravision's offer of the week at 24.99. Suppose I'd better go trade something in for it or I'll never hear the end of it :)

Oh, and while I was in Gamestation yesterday I saw at least one copy of NFS being sold, because, and I quote "I've bought all the other NFS games so I know they're good".

Enjoying this but it certainly doesn't take any prisoners does it?

I particularly like the fact that not only will it cheat me of victory yards from the finishing line but it will then have the competition mock me for losing. Robbed of my fully upgraded nissan on the last bend in a pinkslip race yesterday and I am still bitter about it.

anyone up for some multi this weekend since the weather is bloody awful? I should be able to fit in an hour or two tomorrow afternoon if others are around?

So does anyone know whether the PS3 version supports custom soundtrack?

It doesn't: you can only choose selected tracks from the game.

As I said in my front page review, it's tougher than Godzilla's nutsack.

Some of the challenges rely on you getting ahead and staying ahead - not easy in the rather overpopulated streets of LA where one doddery old cunt in a bus can pretty much put paid to your run. I guess that's where people complain about the rubberbanding the most - that it's very difficult to get a really huge lead (but not impossible).

Just upgraded to a class B car (haven't played it much, I know) and the difference between classes is phenomenal. Can't wait to get some of the faster stuff (steadily chipping away at easy challenges trying to scrape enough cash together at the moment, something that makes the game last that little bit longer).

It's a shame about the bikes. Very easy wins are available using any of the bikes but oh my, they're so prone to crashing and being ploughed into things - much safer in a "cage" :)

One thing - dunno if anyone else has had this problem (on the 360 versh) but the game spectacularly fell apart with that well known old GTA bug over the weekend. All the textures on the buildings and road turned "low res" then before I knew what was happening my car sort of got absorbed into the road. First time it's ever happened (and typically, it would be while my brother in law was round and I was trying to impress him and stop him from picking up NFS). A quick restart of the game sorted it out but it was weird.

I've had the game look up requiring a restart of my 360 on one occasion when loading a race but other than that no problems.
