You can't be a proper gamer these days without having a massive backlog of unfinished, unplayed or - in extreme cases - even unopened games as part of your collection. I like to think I'm a bit more sensible than most in this regard, but there are still a handful of top-quality titles that I've been guilty of neglecting.

So - I'm not really one for resolutions, but I vowed that this year I will make an effort to finish, or at least play these games. I've picked five that stand out in particular:

1. Metroid Prime 3 (Wii)
2. Ico (PS2)
3. God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)
4. Advance Wars: Dual Strike (DS)
5. Devil May Cry 3 (PS2)

In the case of the first three - I haven't even gone past the opening section/level, despite looking forward to playing them for ages. AW and DMC3 I've just got to go back and finish. Actually, now that Disgaea 2 has been announced for the PSP (yay!), I'll have to go back and finish the first game properly as well...

Anyone else want to join me? Pick five top games that you really should have completed ages ago.

Ninja Gaiden II, Condemned II, Red Alert III, Rainbow Six Vegas II and SUper Mario Galaxy.

All played for a couple of hours (if that) and put back on the shelf. Actually, I've played loads of RA3 online but only done about 3 missions in single player.

With (another) nipper due in under 2 weeks, my gaming time is going to be limited, so I'll say:

1) manager season of Fifa 09. Stupidly did a tournament season, not a manager mode one :(

2) Tomb Raider Underworld- looks fairly easy/short from whats been said

3-5) Yeah right, dream on :D

Hmmm I did alright in 2008 and finished more games than ever before. If I can bring myself to stomach 'em though, I'd like to finish off:

Fable 2, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Red Alert 3, Super Mario Galaxy and Need for Speed: Undercover.

I can't quite put my finger on why I suddenly stopped playing it but I can't even be bothered to sort the Wii out enough to get back into it again.

I think it's that you can't really put your finger on why is the same reason why you didn't carry on with it.

I didn't either, as my above post highlights, but it wasn't for any particular reason. Part of me also feels that I was enjoying it so much, I was happy to postpone the eventual completion of it as every new level was a delight.

Blerk'll disagree though, he thinks it's absolute tosh, as does Rhythm's mum.

Heh - Mario Galaxy is the one game that I can never be accused of not finishing. I've completed it twice now, with 120 Stars. I still blast through a level every now and then.

At how many stars did you all stop playing then? Only 60 stars are needed to complete it, and they're not exactly hard either. :)

Peej - I said 'top-quality' games, so the last one on your list definitely doesn't count. :p

25 or something. I've probably missed a load of stuff, but it just didn't feel remarkable at all to me.

I got all the stars on Galaxy, but there were a few that were a bit of a chore.

I'd like to get to the end of blue dragon, but I'd have to buy a english language version if I was going to give it a shot.

Forza 2 is deserving of some more time, as is PGR4

I was really into Afrika until I got distrcted so I'll try to go back to that too.

25? Pfft, you haven't seen anything yet. :)

To be honest, I didn't think much of it on my first playthrough - mainly because it felt too easy and linear. Later levels do ramp up the difficulty though, and on my second playthrough I just enjoyed it for what it was, rather than what I'd expected it to be.

1. Dead Rising (bought during my SDTV days and barely played due to text reading problems)
2. Fallout 3 (not sure how far I am, but not far enough).
3. The Shivering Isles
4. Would like to revisit Fable II even though I've finished the main quest, and also to do the new content.

Can't think of a 5th offhand.

EDIT - Orange Box. Thanks rmj !

Christ, just about everything in my collection. Although, I'm gonna make a real effort with:

The Orange Box
Silent Hill Origins
Both PSP Syphon Filters
Tales of Eternia (PSP) (well, start...)
...and about another two dozen.

That's another one - only bought it a couple of months back, played it up until the first 'boss'. It did impress me at times, but also seems like the sort of game that might get annoying and repetitive really quickly. Definitely not on the priority list right now.

Orange Box too - HL2 and Portal were both superb, I'll have to get round to Episodes 1 and 2 before 3 comes out.

I know, I know. I just think that I ought to at least play it a bit more because I paid good money for it, despite the heaping derision I get every time I boot the bloody thing and play it while online :)

God of War 2 - I've finished all the others, I can't remeber what distracted me from finishing this.

Final Fantasy Tactics - I never finished FFTA, maybe the original will fare better, but I never seem to get around to putting it in my PSP

Metroid Prime - My GC will last around 30-35 minutes before crashing, and I'm stuck at that bit where there are a couple of big boss battles, with invisible space pirates sapping your shields all the way, with no save points in sight for ages. I doubt I'll ever complete it due to the time it takes.

Odin Sphere - I had a load of reviews to do when this came out, and I've never found the time to go back to it, I love it though. MUST PLAY AGAIN!

Patapon - There's a house build been going on for months next door to me, and ambient noise is NOT conducive to playing this game. Hopefully the sequel will be easier to hear. I do want to finish this though.

You've got to put FFT into your PSP, its ace. Having said that, I've still not completed it- in the PS1 original I got to the end of game boss, only to realise my rota was underpowered/unbalanced and I couldn't finish the game. Didn't have an earlier save I could resurrect either- curse you small capacity memory cards!!!

Oh, yeah. And that. I'm also planning on ploughing many more hours into MHF2 over the next few months, in the absence of Live.

Probably a god job Disgaea PSP is so hard to come by, too.

Hughes. I've got a GameCube you can have in my garage if you want it. Actually I have two - a US one and a UK one but the US one needs a new power supply and stepdown transformer.

I'd nearly finished Heavenly Sword, and was just starting to get into Fallout before my PS3 went bang. So hopefully I'll restart them and finish them.

Haven't started R2, as I've just been playing online. Would like to complete it.

Naruto UNS as well, though I'll have to start it again also.

I've a few psp games too. And I'd like to start pokemon again if I could find my DS.

I've actually been clearing my DVD backlog since the PS3 died. :)
Just finished watching Noein and Spaced 1&2 which were decent

Slightly OT but what happens when a PS3 dies? Do you get a replacement shipped by Sony or do you have to go through the same ballache you do with the 360?

Not that I'm getting paranoid about mine freezing recently...No sirreee.

Bahamut Lagoon (SNES)
Treasure Hunter G (SNES)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES)
Snatcher (Saturn)
Wachenroder (Saturn)

And my more up-to-date list:

Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Sins of a Solar Empire (PC)
Fallout 3 (PC)
Far Cry 2 (PC)
Persona 3/FES/4 (PS2)

And a more import/handheld-centric list:

Knights in the Nightmare (DS)
Sigma Harmonics (DS)
Inazuma Eleven (DS)
Wind of the Nostalgeo (DS)
Star Ocean 1/2 (PSP)

Various states of unfinished-ness, with at least P4 and Knights... totally unplayed.

I'm not really sure either. I need to phone Sony, but not sure who to phone. Happened to a friend, and he got a replacement pretty fast. His was still under warenty though.

I'll ask him what he did anyway.
