It's quite scary at home listening to the melt. Sleeping right under the roof, all you can hear are the vast chunks of ice and snow shifting about.

In fact on saturday we were out with the nipper in the "big fuck off huge" big tyred buggy, and a huge chunk of ice peeled off a building and dropped right on her shoulder. Thankfully the buggy took the force of it and it didn't hurt her but oh man, close thing.

Looked up at where the ice came from and saw about 10-12 sodding huge lethal looking icicles. Reported it to the shop owners but naturally they shrugged and said "what do you want me to do about it?"

Nice.

Next doors toilet cistern exploded the other day. He's got his loft really well insulated but not his water tank. With the heating cranked up, the cistern was very warm. One flush, and the icy cold water came down and won its argument with the cistern.

Youch.

Bet that was fun.

Noticed all the places where our guttering was leaky and blocked (lots of icicles). Going to be a fun job sorting that little lot out in the summer.

Also got the fun prospect of replacing our bathroom as the shower's leaking and looks like it's taken out part of the plaster on a wall. Bahhh!

I decided that I'd try and get into work today (Hemel to High Wycombe) as the snow didn't look too bad. Got mrs thrawn to the station alright, but coming out of the station the car slipped on some ice and I nearly took out two other cars on a roundabout. Sod this for a game of soldiers, I think, I'll just work from home.

I live at the top of a hill. There are 3 ways I can get up there. Two were already blocked at 7:10 this morning. I just couldn't get up the other one so I pulled my car fully onto the pavement (Which, luckily, is very wide on that particular road) and left it there. Fucking snow. Frankly I'm getting bored of it now.

After taking the best part of 30 minutes to go half a mile or so I turned around after having real trouble and the roads are gridlocked, I then got back to my road where a flatbed was having severe difficulty getting out so I ended up getting stuck! Fortunately a passing pedestrian, who had decided to walk to work as his car wasn't going anywhere, gave me a push. Hurrah for that.

I've called my boss's mobile and told him I'll take today as leave, I then gave work a ring as I was supposed to be in early and the only chap that had got there had taken over an hour to get the five miles to work from his house.

Snow for a few days over Christmas is nice, snow and ice that's dragging on for ages is shit, especially when it's obvious that the local councils did fuck all in preparation for last night's snowfall.

I also had to give up due to the gridlock. My missus works from home on Wednesdays so the fact that my daughter's school is shut AGAIN wouldn't have mattered today. As it is, I'm losing yet another day's pay (self-employed, so no leave to take) on top of the 2 weeks at Christmas and the two days last week, and doubtless the school will be shut for the rest of the week now, so I'll have lost 3 weeks money by the end of the week. Getting VERY bored with this white stuff now.

We've had a bit more snow, the disappointingly the trains seemed to be running OK, so no excuse for not being in work.

Whether they'll still be running tonight is another matter entirely, however...

Ooops, been caught up cleaning the house and messing about with Star Trek Online. :)

I'm down in bournemouth. The place is freaky when it comes to weather as it's fine here but 20 minutes away and it's a nightmare. It's like living in a bubble :)

Hurrah it's raining in Hampshire and Surrey, take that you fucking annoying snow!

It couldn't have been a more different driving experience today, once I'd got off the snow in my road, nice wet roads which you can get some traction on, marvellous.

Maybe my postman will finally decide to do some deliveries in the next day or so?

Same story here in Oxford. Though the side roads are still a bit tricky because of impacted snow and ice, the rain's getting rid of most of the slushy shite that's all over the roads. It's doing a far better job than our lazy bastard council did, anyway.

Really foggy here today which made the commute in this morning "even more fun than a bag of ferrets and a cattle prod" so as a result I'm late in AGAIN.

I think the snow is officially over - certainly raining in London, and rain expected tomorrow at home.

Hopefully life can get back to normal now...

Hope so, though predictably the fog means all I've heard all morning are sirens. Some people are complete twunts in this weather.

YAY! Rain! That's what I like to hear.

The sooner our road gets rained on (and hopefully just rained on, not rained on then frozen solid) the better. Might actually get our bins collected this year then!

The rain round here gave the illusion of clear pavements but most were actually covered in black ice.

It wasn't much fun but hopefully all the snow will be gone this evening.

Eeek. We probably still need a good few days of above-zero temperatures I guess, but rain is more encouraging.

Typical though, just as I get my sexy snow-lady built in the back garden it'll all get melted away. Bwaah!

You could always go all Calvin and Hobbes on the snow creature. Was always tempted to re-create some of the sets, would take ages though.

Snow in Brussels is pretty much gone. It went from snowing to raining yesterday. Now we have 2 months of grey shit weather to look forward to. great. At least the snow was pretty from a distance.

The one good thing about the snow is that it made everywhere look relatively clean. Now it's melting, and turning into the inevitable grey slushy shit it's exposing all the litter and usual rubbish that was underneath that pristine white covering.

The other thing is the noise. When it really heavily snows it has this gorgeous "damping" effect on traffic and general background noise. Now it's melting you can hear the difference.

Stopped here. We had a few flurries of the usual crappy british stuff.

Nothing compared to what they're getting on the east coast of the US at the mo.

Sam got stuck in a pile up last week after only a couple of inches fell. She was fine, it was the muppets driving in front of her that blocked the road up that were te problem

Aye, it's quite surprising that more people stayed off work with the snow last week when there was about 2cm, than when there was a good few inches. Lazy bastards.

Driving conditions though, I swear if it rains or snows or there's even a whiff of fog, the entire road structure around Oxford just grinds to a halt with some fuckwad blocking one arterial road, meaning that the whole thing goes gridlock.

I seriously am going back to biking it in the summer or once it's lighter (the roads are lethal in the daytime but in the dark mornings / evenings it'd be suicide).

No news from Mrs F_P, so hopefully no snow where we are

/crosses fingers

I either want way too much snow to be able to get into work, or none at all.
