If you liked Severance, or King's Field, or you just like the idea of a really atmospheric mediaeval fantasy RPG with an emphasis on weighty, realistic melee combat import this now :)

Seriously, best game I've played so far this generation.

I've been following the thread on EG closely the last few weeks and it does sound and look interesting, if a little repetitive. In the two or three streams I've seen it looked liked you enter an area over and over again to kill the same enemies.

An unavoidable aspect of the game is replaying sections you've cleared before, but it's not as irritating as it sounds. Especially when you consider there's multiple paths you can open up, making return journeys more interesting/less time consuming.

It's pretty hard, with no mid-level saving except when you quit, and when you die you leave a blood stain you need to return to if you want to retrieve all the souls you'd collected on your last run, but the combat is so good and the atmosphere so inviting it hasn't bothered me yet.

In fact I consider the fact that you have to work your way slowly through these vast locations, dying, retrying, exploring, and experimenting with different approaches/weapons/items etc a distinct plus point to this game. Plus the loot is a permanent lure :)

The online features are pretty bloody clever too.

You can only see the ghosts of other players and they can leave you messages, right?
Do you see the messages from all players or just from your friends ie. friends leave messages specifically for you.

You don't know who the messages are from or who the ghosts are, there's no choice about who you interact with.

The messages are obviously filtered so the place doesn't get littered with them, you see different ones all the time. One nice feature is that you can rate messages if they're helpful, and the player who wrote the message gets a little health boost. When I started the game last night I had several 'Your message has been rated' notifications, and I've avoided death or found hidden loot as a result of other players messages a number of times already.

Ghosts appear now and again, just for a few seconds, and I think they're just little recordings of what other players are doing.

If you find a blood stain on the ground it's where another player has died, and you can replay their final moments, depicted as a red ghost, to see how they died.

You can also 'break into' other players worlds, and either play with them for a short time or track them down in the level and attack them. I haven't had the opportunity to do that yet.

Ah, okay. Sounds nice, shame there is no PAL release and I'm not buying anything of ebay (nor do I have a credit card)

Play Asia take PayPal Syrok, but looks like they're out of stock of the Asian one.

I'm pretty interested in this, would really like a demo to help me make up my mind.

Yay, some love for my favourite game of the moment. Didn't see your other thread RMJ, did you get yourself a copy?

No! But reasonably desperate to get hold of a copy.

Don't have paypal, so Ebay is a chore... nor do I have the capacity to game online at the moment. Would playing SP still be worth it?

Oh absolutely, I would say it'd still be well worth playing in offline mode.

You'd miss out on the messages from other players, ghosts, and the co-op/pvp stuff, but I don't think any of that is essential to enjoying the game. It's hard as nails at times, but bloody brilliant.

Decided to put a speculative order in with yesasia for this, having seen rumours in several places that Sony are shoving the next batch out to the market right about now. Was tempted to order with ncsx (or whatever they're called) but seem to recall they sting the overseas market with delivery costs.

I'll either be getting it in a month, or having the order cancelled by yesasia when they give up trying to provide it, I guess.

Sigh. Still no sign of my order shifting. I don't understand how ncsx can get new copies in every few days, and yet yesasia - actually located IN fucking Hong Kong - have been out of stock for a month... And they won't let me cancel the damn order until they decide they're unable to fill it.

Should have spent the extra cash and gone the ncsx route, I guess...

Had a go on a mate's copy tonight, seemed pretty snazzy. Really liked the weighty, skill based combat and slower more deliberate pace. I really like looty dungeon crawls, but was worried this might be as disappointing as Kingdom under Fire was. The combat seemed miles better than KUF from my quick bash though so I reckon I'll try to track down a Asian version.

Ooh, the review of this over on .net sounds rather good. Now, when will they finally say a word about a western release?

PS: And me asking the folks of eg.de several times to import and review it worked, too. o/
Now, dear responsible people, do your part and release it over here.

9/10 on EG... That's what we want: another couple of thousand arseholes trying to get a copy of a game Sony only press ten copies of at a time.

Yesasia have bumped my order back another two weeks... and that's a "maybe".

Are NCSX reliable and likely to ship pretty close to their current 1-2 weeks if I order now then? I've never used them before for anything.

The review seems pretty on the mark from what I've played so far. It's bastard hard, and took me a while to figure out how to progress. My only concern is it is very dark fantasy and is so far a bit grim with a grey and brown colour palette.

It's nearly persuaded me to stump up the cash to get rid of my ps3 overheating problem and get a new dual shock.

NCSX are probably my favorite web retailer bar none. Superb service, every time, going back nearly seven years, and the friend who introduced me to them had been using them before then.

And in a huge WTF turnaround... yesasia just emailed me to say they've despatched the game! Get fucking in!!!

Cost me 45 including postage, in the end. I can live with the month's wait.

For the first time in years (as a gamer) I'm stupidly excited.

And it is... bastard hard, actually. Looks lush, though. Sony get a great game on their hands and hide it from 90% of the world. Nice work, fellas.
