I have about 15 games on my list but is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? I'm going to be picking up Boom Blox and Wii Sports, definitely, plus an extra controller will be a must.

Also, can import stuff be played? And what downloadable stuff's worth looking at?

Wii Play for the extra controller, surely.

Having looked at the prices, the controllers are cheaper than the game, so I'll give Wii Play a miss - it's got prety poor reviews

whilst this is mostly true, and depending on how old your daughter is, the cow racing on Wii Play is bloody good fun for a youngster.

Wii Play is fun in multiplayer and pretty good for running through all the different uses of the Wiimote in a nice easy fashion.

Whoah everyone, let's just stop and look at who's asking. On that basis I'd recommend:

Monster Trucks 4x4 World Circuit
Carnival Games
Hannah Montana - Shake your booty
Bratz - The Movie

:)

(seriously though)

These are the Wii games I like at the mo

House of the Dead: Overkill (best HOTD since the DC but ignore that bit you Sega hating weirdo!)
Family Ski and Snowboard - only bother if you're getting a balance board tho.
Super Mario Galaxy - Shows the Wii off nicely
ExciteTruck - though don't expect Motorstorm 2
The King of Fighters collection - Seriously rock solid scrapper but again not for everyone's taste
MadWorld - well why not

For the nipper there's a metric ton of games I'd recommend. The Guinness World Records game is hilarious fun. Don't bother with Wario Ware though, it's shite on the Wii. Rayman Raving Rabbids is OK ish...

Wii Play as others have said - great little mini games and a controller thrown in.

Cheers Peej. I'm getting HOTD and Galaxy, definitely. Not sure about ExciteTruck (as I've ended up keeping the PS3 and thus still have Motorstorm PR). I dislike brawlers so will avoid KotF and Madworld, thanks :-)

Wow, never knew that you could get the Wii without Sports. Get that then, it's still the best use of the Wii.

No More Heroes is great. Mario Kart Wii is also great if you intend going online. And if you're diving onto the WiiWare store grab Lost Winds which is a superb charming little game.

No interest in NMH and I *hate* Mario Kart, but I'm planning on picking up Lost Winds.

I think that's about it. Avoid the Tiger Woods games like the plague, the Wiimote ain't quite there for golf stuff (as you'll see when you play Wii Sports Golf, and that's the best of the bunch - none of the TW games has nailed it yet).

Zelda's OK but I got a bit fed up with it after a while. Stupid map.

Red Steel's nice and robust but don't expect miracles.

SSX Blur is shite. Not sure why that's still sitting in my collection.

FIFA 09 was superb.

Um...that's about it looking at my shelves.

World of Goo sounds pretty essential to me as far as WiiWare goes.

Metroid Prime 3? Unless you're one of those Metroid / Prime haters.

I didn't get on with ExciteTruck... I only played about half an hour of it admittedly, but I have no inclination to go back and try it again. Might get rid of my copy.

Also, I reckon that Wii Play is definitely worth for around £5 more than the standard controller. The Duck Hunt-style shooting minigame in particular is great.

I haven't bought a Wii game since SSBB, but there's quite a few that interest me. NMH, De Blob, HotD, MadWorld, Super Paper Mario, and probably a couple of others I've forgotten about.

Seeing a whole lot of "meh" being thrown my way here ;-)

I did Twiglet Princess on the Gamecube, Metroid's definitely a maybe, World of Goo I own on PC, De Blob looks good but I resent paying money for console versions of free PC games...

Just to add to this, here's what's in my list so far:

- Pikmin 2
- Boom Blox
- Williams Pinball (Import only - how do you enable import?)
- Lost Winds
- HotD Overkill
- Endless Ocean
- Zack & Wiki
- Tiger Woods 10 (MotionPlus)
- Kororinpa
- Mario Galaxy
- LIT

Wii is not region free, so no import games. Unless you get it chipped or something.

I thought they were hack/homebrewable without modchips?

I might well write a guide to go on the front page.

It's something I've considered before but I'm not sure about the legality of it.

TW09 was pretty good I thought. Only the putting was slightly spazzed and that's fine once you understand what you have to do. TW10 with m+ sounds like it's shaping up nicely though, as does Grand Slam Tennnis....

Grand Slam tennis really has me interested. Is Tiger 10 taking the same graphical route as that?

I'm really exited about motion plus on these games, I hope this time it lives up to the promises.

I found with TW09 you needed a seriously steady arm for putting, and even long shots weren't that great but WMP should make all the difference.

The tennis looks awesome btw. Bout time the Wii had a seriously good and proper tennis sim.

At some point in the next few days I'll write and illustrate exactly how to do this. The only problem is, making it region free also allows it to play backups and downloaded virtual console/WiiWare titles so it's a very grey area. I'm sure I can word it carefully though.

Very carefully. Make sure it's put together on the emphasis of getting homebrew working methinks.

It'll be good to see it though, always wondered if it was possible to region-free the Wii like the cube was.
