No, Singstar I'm pretty funny about - in that I sing proper but the missus usually gets away with humming and making noises and still gets a decent score.

Just Dance 2 is coming to Natal already, Ubisoft have confirmed it'll be one of their many launch titles on the thing.

Nice. Might make me want a Natal + 360, if it's any good.

They ought to pick up the So You Think You Can Dance branding.

And, yes, there's a place in gamer Hell reserved for Singstar mumblers. Though it's inevitable when you don't know a song (shocking how many songs you think you know, but it turns out you only know the chorus).

What shocked (and slightly depressed) me was just how many Take That songs I knew from Singstar Take That...

The Kindle will become a gaming device.

There's other details, but nothing particularly interesting.

Really? What year is it again?

Is it going to play GameBoy classics?

I think it's all part of EA's new approach of throwing enough shit at every single platform going, in the hope that some of it will stick.

Kindle, the new Apple tablet, Dell's slate, the little LCD display on your granny's mobility scooter. You'll be able to buy The Sims on all of them.

Christ, and people wonder why they're bleeding money.

Project Needlemouse is now Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

It'll be episodic and is coming to all three consoles as a downloadable. PS3 and Wii versions will make use of motion controls (eek).

It looks a bit odd. People always clamour for these things to be redone in HD but the problem is it often leaves the game looking like a flash game (too cartoony) or having a dodgy "sprite 3D" look. The retro graphics have a charm that doesn't scale up very well.

Heh, I was just about to post that - to be honest though, it's not really Sonic 4 is it? There have been at least five proper 2D Sonics (albeit for handhelds) since S&K. I agree they should have stuck with the old sprite look to make it really look like Sonic 4; this just looks like Sonic Rush HD to me, with the 4 tacked on to get fans all excited.

Still, looking forward to how it turns out, although not sure about the whole 'episodic' aspect of it. Apparently each episode will be equivalent to a full old MD Sonic game, which would be fine, but I'm still sceptical.

Looks like a cheap moneyspinner. Bit of a shame, I really would like to see 'em do Sonic properly in pseudo 2D. The graphical look and feel would be tough to get right though, I mean look at the new Sonic racing game...it looks a bit odd.

I'm still sad that they didn't put Tails in. Somehow Sega finally got the idea that Sonic fans didn't like all the new characters, but they went too far with the cull!

Tails has been part of the mix since the second game, dammit, and he's the coolest lil' fox in town. :(

(Who am I kidding, I bet they've got DLC Tails and Knuckles planned. Cynical.)

Absolutely. Tails. Knuckles. Even that stupid bint with the bow in her hair.

All DLC. In fact I think Sega have made a very smart move here, serialising Sonic because there are a lot of people who'd buy a Sonic game purely because it's a Sonic game, and if you can sell them something three or four times - the money's going to roll in.

The ultimate neu-sonic for me would be a game that chucked 3D hub-based shit in the bin and just dished up an extremely tight and playable Sonic 2-esque game, bit of 3D for clever visual stuff in the background but essentially a side-on scroller with a fairly linear route through.

I don't think Sega could do that though.

A 2.5D look, like LBP would probably work quite nicely.

Interesting that such a high profile release is going to downloadable, rather than disc based. I do wonder if the number of people who don't access the online stores (esp on Wii) will completely miss this.

Never been a massive Sonic fan, but this could be interesting, especially if it's at an attractive price point...

Aye. 2.5d, single plane (none of that LBP leaping in / out of the screen malarkey)

The essence of Sonic was super-high-speed sections of action punctuated by trickier platform stuff.

Namco had the right idea with what they did to Klonoa but that was a little too puzzle-centric to adapt for something like Sonic.

With the speed and definition of modern consoles I'd really love to see 'em do a proper old skool style sonic left to right game, updated with super visuals.

Yep - that's what I meant. Hopefully this'll be more 'old skool' than the more recent Sonics

Sonic Rivals on the PSP had sort of the right idea (2.5D, that is - it looked gorgeous at times) but ruined it with the 'race' element to the game. That sort of style with a proper 2D Sonic though would be great.

Though having said that - do we really need another 2D Sonic game? There have been more than enough over the years, and the original MD Sonics are unlikely to be bettered what with Sega being a bit crap nowadays. And unlike Mario, the Sonic games were extremely shallow even back in 1991.

Not a huge fan of 2.5D for Sonic (by which I assume you mean 3D graphics but 2D movement). They did that with sections of Sonic Unleashed - it's nice, but for me Sonic has always been dead flat: no 3D models, no tilting camera.

I think my problem with the Sonic model in this new game is that they've tried to make him look 3D and it comes off as weird, like he's plastic. He's too animated, too. That's creepy.

I guess I kinda want them to take a step backwards and recapture the retro feel. That's not always a bad move: look at the new Mega Man; they went totally old-school with it.

The move up to higher res will always be awkward, I think. Again, you either end up with something that looks too clean and too cartoony like a Flash game (think Paper Mario) or too detailed (look at this new Sonic model).

Then the animation must be made smoother to match the enhanced graphics: look at Street Fighter II HD Remix: the game got a lot better looking (but again, suddenly way too cartoon-like), but it exposed how bad the frames of animation is.

So we get Sonic suddenly running really smoothly, which creeps me out, because I'm used to the more retro animation.

In summary: Sega can't win.

I think you're probably right.

Yet, and here's the weirdness...when the same trick was essentially pulled by Nintendo with Mario - it worked. Why is that?

Why does Mario successfully survive the update process, and why is New Super Mario Bros a pretty good game despite Mario being even less suitable for updating to a this-generation polish up?

I think you're right though NY, Neu-Sonic looks a bit too much like a capsule toy but I guess whatever Sega do, they're going to piss me off because my rose-coloured specs are still remembering just how bloody fantastic those first few moments on Sonic 1 were back in the MD days.

Yeah, probably.

I have the feeling that either at GDC or E3 they will announce a sequel or a standalone Arc LBP game.

Next Pokemon games will be subtitled Black and White.

Some people are playing the race card.

Which sounds silly, but, hey, I'd be interested to see which game sells best and by what margin.

Street Fighter Legacy.

Very short, a bit cheesy but still a decent effort. Nice moody atmosphere and the opening few seconds are great. Beats the heck out of the main SF films, anyway.
