The best DLC is free
But you can give that to the birds and bees, we want your money..
That's what I want.
That's what I want...
That's what I want

Rock Band don't get everyone it's true.
But who it don't get are a bunch of fools
So gimme your money (that's what I want)
A little money (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

Your plastic instruments give me such a thrill
But solus versions don't pay my bills
Now gimme money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

I notice that reviewers take a game like this an opportunity to drag out all the useless Beatles trivia they know, as if anyone cares.

The EG review said:

Which is not to say that The Beatles: Rock Band is free from clumsy historical inaccuracies. In the animations for both "Back In The USSR" and "Dear Prudence", Ringo is sat cheerfully in Studio 2 on drums, but Ringo does not play on either track on the recordings that were released on the White Album. With tempers frayed during the sessions, Starr stormed out leaving Macca to pick up sticks and record the percussion parts for both himself.

SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP!

There's nowt wrong with Johnny doing that! The game's supposed to be a dedicated tribute, is it not? :P

Anyway, passed by Oxford Circus HMV today, first 99 people tomorrow at 9:09 get the game for...wait for it... 9.99! As far as I know, it's only the game and not the bundle.

Not all too fussed about the deal since mine should arrive tomorrow.

Happily the beatles music or band members do nothing for me so it's easy to pass this by. Still waiting on rock band jethro Tull, with new flute peripheral bwahaha

Gawd no but how is that any kind of news? It's been like that since...well since Pong :)

Anyone harping on about the price of games, or Activision's evil price hiking strategy could always take up coarse fishing or knitting.

True dat.

Word on the Beatles though. What a thoroughly awesome looking thing it is. It's absolutely put together with love (love, love).

Can't wait to get home and have another go later.

That said, I might be drafted into the works band...

My first impressions of this are that it's very well presented and it feels really authentic but fuck me if it's not a bit easy. I've got 100% on quite a few songs on guitar on expert already on my first play throughs.

Yes but let's not forget, you are a rhythm action games playing robot and actually not human at all, so that might have some bearing on your ability :)

I've still not heard anyone actually say "You need this - even though you hate the Beatles" so I'm guessing that even as a bit of a GH whorebag, I'd not be missing much if I didn't get this.

Hairy, it's very easy to start with but not particularly surprising to be honest.

I'm glad I'm not reviewing it to be honest because it deserver a 4 or 5 out of 5 but for me to give it that score would be massively hypocritical because I'd be giving it a high score for all the same reasons I criticised GH5.

As in all of the extraneous paraphernalia. In The Beatles it's justified and warranted, but not so in GH5. However, I still MUCH MUCH prefer hammer-on pull-offs in GH by far.

I still think it must be nigh on impossible to sell to anyone except die hard beatles fans or generic musos who like to think they've got all bases covered.

Can't really put my finger on why I really don't like 'em or their music. Perhaps it was because my parents brought me up listening to bizarre and heavy 70s stuff like Pink Floyd, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa and the Alex Harvey Band.

One of the Idle Thumbs guys said on the new podcast that he had no idea why the Beatles are so revered. That was until he played the game.

I like the Beatles, I don't think everything they've produced is fantastic but you can't deny just how innovative, influential and huge they were.

I was surprised to hear there's an option that turns the crowd noise to the kind of levels that they actually were, to the point of almost drowning out the music. An odd feature but a small item of completionism that enrichens the experience, even though it's a hindrance.

That is true - and for that they get a smidgeon of respect but I think deep down a lot of pretentious music twats give them god-like status when they had the same greed, same failings and same artistic bickering going on that pretty much ended up putting the kybosh on 'em in the end anyway. So they were only human :)

You could indeed say that of any band though - in fact I'm struggling to think of a special edition band-flavoured GH / RB product that WOULD get me all unnecessary and excited. I think it's pretty unlikely there'll ever be Rock Band: Crowded House edition... :)

Cake was mentioned as a possibility on one podcast but not really as a band pack but it'd be one track pack that I'd instabuy.

I reckon that The Who might work best.

As long as everyone else is expressing their meh-ness towards the Beatles, I'll pitch in that I really don't feel the same enthusiasm towards them as nearly everyone else on the planet. Okay, so I've not heard much from them, but last Bank Holiday, Radio 2 was playing them non-stop, and there just wasn't much I liked.

I think it's a case of, yes, they're really influential, but since I wasn't around when they were making waves, I'm now more into the bands who are riding those waves.

That's not to say that I am the Walrus isn't awesome and this game doesn't get me a wee bit excited.

Some of their songs are catchy but not a lot of the rest really does much for me, partly because I wasn't there as it came out and partly because what they sing about often seems a bit banal.

Catchy (and clever) or interesting. That's what works for me.

If they were a brand new band coming out now then I would rate most of their stuff as 6 or 7 out of 10.

For fans then I can imagine this game would be great fun though, I know that the songs in Guitar Hero that I liked were much much more fun than the rest.
