I have a domain, and a host at kthosting. kthosting is nice, they have a nice control panel and stuff. But it's 40 a year and I only get something like 15 megs. I hardly ever use the site. I should let it lapse as 40 a year is too much for something I hardly ever use.

Any suggestions?

Is that cheap or expensive for hosting?

I presume if I let the host lapse I still keep the domain...?

Should I go for a cheaper host?

If I let this lapse could I use my ISP webspace and hook it to the domain somehow?

oh, and I suggest "internets" category!

40 for 15meg is very expensive.

The host I use gives 2GB of space and 10GB of traffic per month for 70 a year.

If you never use the site then you may as well let it lapse.

In terms of the domain, do you use the hosting company to buy the domain? If so then you will still have to pay a domain registration fee to keep it. You can then transfer the domain to a different DNS if necessary.

That seems quite expensive. I use Dataflame and pay about 35 per year/

For that I get 500MB of disk space and 20GB of bandwidth per month.

Dreamhost give assloads of storage and bandwidth and they have a pretty decent control panel.

I've used them for years and never had a problem. I recently got upgraded to 1TB bandwidth for free too!

The domain's definitely mine as I had to pay to get it off freenetname back in the day.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will look them up.

I'm on Dreamhost at the moment (special offer of $9.24 for the year instead of $9.99 a month) but I'm probably looking to find somewhere similar but cheaper once that runs out.

I don't exactly need the 219.2 GB storage and 2472 GB transfer a month they give me (and it goes up every week).

I'd like something with a bit more room than 500MB so I can use to whack loads of videos and photos on.

I'm with Fasthosts, and whilst they're pretty good and relatively cheap, the MySQL databases are virtually unusable, as they're shared with about a billion other people.

Haha. Thats where I work :)

In fact i'm off to work there in about 10 minutes. Shared Mysql is a bit hit and miss, it depends on what server you end up on though, the newer ones are lightning-fast.

Whats your site name Gremmi?

Really? Awesome. :D

It's chrisgrapes.co.uk.

I'm not doing anything with it at the moment other than hosting a barely updated blog that's published from blogger.com. I intend to actually redo it entirely in the near future.

Another nod here for dataflame. Cheap and online live support is very good.
