Would you? I mean, would you take a job in the industry?

Looks like an opportunity's come up with one of the big ones, doing what I already do, but for them instead.

Am I going to love it, or will it be like meeting your Heroes... IE when you get that close up, you can see all the flaws.

I got offered a job with a software house in Dundee, think kills for skills and you won't be too far away. It meant leaving NI tho. Do I regret it? No, life is too short and we have a baby on the way ant that wouldn't have happened if I'd taken the job. One major worry was that taking the job might also take the fun out of the hobby long term. Who knows! Maybe not :)

I'm not sure. I would if I'd be doing something I enjoy, but then again how am I going to distract myself if I can't play games without thinking about work. :)
You probably can do both, though. Make games and enjoy them in your spare time.

That said, I've no idea how to program and am not artistic at all. I have ideas but I don't have the skills to realise them, so my chances of doing anything like that are slim.
I might end up in management if I'm not careful, though. That would be cool, but also kind of boring. :(

Anyway, I still have at least two years of uni ahead of me and plan on finishing that first.

And I'm pretty sure creating levels in LBP isn't anywhere near to doing that in real life.

I'm going to be doing a course in Interactive Game Development come September in Belfast Metropolitan College, so a job 'in the industry' is sort of what I'm aiming for.

After playing your LBP levels, I'd have to disagree mate! :)

I'm like Mapster, I think it'd ruin the hobby for me. Writing for this place is probably as close as I'd want to get (though I would like to do some big and proper writing in anger for somewhere, but that's pretty much never going to happen). Most people I know in the industry seem happy enough with their lot, whereas others I know can't wait to get out of it and get into other fields of work.

I think it's like all interests / hobbies though, you've got to absolutely genuinely love the arse off 'em to make 'em your career.

THAT old chestnut. Yeah, the whole "doing what you love for a living thing". I mean, don't get me wrong - I love my work - but sometimes I'm banging away in this one hot blonde's mouth (like seriously hot), and there's another - maybe a brunette - fiddling with my bollocks while fingering my arse, and all the time some other incredibly sizzling redhead is sucking my face off while two or three others are waiting their turn and licking their lips (their own as well as each others)... and you know, yeah - I admit - occasionally it gets me down, and I'm clockwatching and thinking, "man, I got another two hours of this shit - I can't wait to get me home and just have a totally asexual evening"...

I have mentioned I'm a part-time porn star, right?

My best friend's dad is a gynaecologist and he reckons that after a while you develop a condition known as "Fannyitis" - where you just get sick and tired of the site of...er...fannies, to the point where you wake up in the morning with the cold frost of sweat on your back and the shakes at the prospect of staring at another 40 minges that day.

That is at least one good reason I couldn't be a gynae.

I still enjoy games, but due to being able to get free/cheaper stuff your tolerence level for gaming definitely changes.

I used to eek every last drop out of a game, but now if it doesn't hold my attention it gets shelved/swapped.

I don't program though, so maybe that's different. Everyone I chat to, or oeverhear in lifts or whatever here, is constantly talking about what they're playing though. So I guess it really won't ruin your enjoyment of other peoples titles.

Well, they don't want me. The interviewer suggested I was too 'relaxed'.

O_o

Oh well.

Not a problem, if I took the job with them, I would have been £7k worse off.

Got another one on Tuesday though, with more money than I'm getting now.

I expect he'd seen so many interviewees as nervous wreaks (I mean, working for SCEE - you'd want that job wouldn't you!) when he saw I didn't have sweaty palms and was able to answer questions without the 10 secound "Errrrrr" prelude, he naturally assumed I was too laid back.

Or maybe they knew about my less than complimentary Singstar review?
