After trying the likes of Football Manager Online, Guild Wars (4 years ago) WoW, City of Heroes, Warhammer, Conan and a couple of others I've found that none of them can hold my attention long enough for me to get to the good bits.

Is there an MMO that anyone can recommend for someone with a short attention span for this type of game? I would like to go for something that taps into my slightly obsessive/compulsive nature like Travian managed for a good few months and Football Manager online succeeded in (apart from it not being structured quite well enough and too many people didn't play much).

If it didn't have orcs and the like then that would be even better. It needs to look quite pretty and preferably be a bit funny/weird :D

Is Aion or Champions online likely to be what I want (from someone that's been playing on the betas would be great)?

Oh...and not Eve. It's too big for me to give the time it needs to do what I would want to do i.e. take over the galaxy.

I played the Wizard 101 beta for a bit. Despite it being a bit "family " I spent a good month or so with it , I liked the combat system.

Well, hope nobody minds me using this thread, but here's some footage of FFXIV at gamescom.

That looks like FFIX with a shinier engine. It's probably good if you're a big fan of FFXII but I never got past playing about 1 hour before wanting to stop. It was just too quiet when I played.

Feel free to abuse the thread in any way you like. I'm gonna give Champions Online a shot when it comes out.

Guild Wars 2 is the sequel to sub-free Guild Wars, which you may remember reviewed quite well (though as much as I tried to like it, it couldn't drag me away from WoW).

Here's the first trailer, which, as you can see, is sheer environment-porn. For someone like me who could never commit to an MMO, a free one like this that I could freely dip in and out of seems quite neat.

I like that there's some futuristic element to it, too. I don't get on well with "ye olde" fantasy.

I guess someone broke Azeroth, then. WoW: Cataclysm trailer.

Worgen look way cooler - why must they be scummy Alliance?!

Anyway, to a WoW novice like me, it looks like they just set fire to the whole place, which makes everything look like a generic fire level, which seems silly. But whatever rocks your boat.
