Is there a phrase that puts across the sentiment "about fucking time!" more forcefully and poignantly? If so, can I borrow it?

One down, now all we need to do is surreptitiously get "I'm a celebrity", "Strictly Come Dancing", "Dancing on Ice", " X-Factor", "Britain's Got Talent" and a few others to go down the same route and TV might actually get a bit better!

Once every couple of weeks I'll see some news on BB and think "that's still running?"

Yeah, I can do without those shows, but talent shows I loooove.

Channel 4 aren't commissioning another series, due to falling viewing figures but 2m would be plenty for C5 or a digital channel, so don't count your chickens just yet...

I'm not sure if you're taking the piss Hairy !
I used to watch it a lot, but the last 3 series I've watched the launch show and nothing else.

He's not - he's one of those weird metrosexual men who talk about BB but swiftly change the subject to The Wire or The Shield if any other blokes come near :)

BD's got a point - just because C4 are axing it, doesn't mean some other numpties won't take it on instead.

Christ though, what will Davina do now? More hair ads with her phantom mum?

No I mean it. I don't care for any of the celebrity culture or bullshit that accompanies it but I have genuinely enjoyed watching almost every episode of every single series.

I can totally see how from the outside, to someone who only catches the odd episode here and there, that it looks shit, but if you watch it properly and get to know the characters there's some really funny and often sentimental moments to be had.

I often find it amusing that the people who shout loudest about how shit it is, only actually watched the first series which in my opinion was actually the shittest series so far.

I'll be sorry to see it go and it will be shit on any other channel. No Davina, no sale.

My objection's based on the amount of shite that gets generated by these programmes in the press - and it's not just the gutter press any more, even papers I read seem to give proggies like this coverage.

Matters not though - for all my moaning about it, the only BB "celebs" who did well for themselves, well one died of cancer and the other does daytime decorating proggies on telly (Craig from BB1) so it's almost comforting that the other try hard wannabees never really got anywhere off the back of the series.

Still, it would've been one of my guilty secrets that I always wanted to be on the programme - just to be the fucking psycho freaky one.

If I didn't have to be filmed taking a dump and go through so many X-Factor auditions and have to sing and dance on it, I'd go on it in a heartbeat.

I think they call all die except:

American Idol (of course)
X-Factor
So You Think You Can Dance
Britain's Got Talent

Best shows ever? Probably.

I'm amazed you still had it going.
How many seasons is that? I think they quit after 6 here in Belgium. Which also seemed a few years too long really.

Also. Hairylol.

You've forgotten the mighty Jon Tickle. He's turned out to be a really good presenter for Braniac, far better than the Bang! Goes the Theory lot whose enthusiasm seems a little put on.

Talent shows are worse, because the whole point of them is to project some warty member of the public into fame and fortune. Again though, it's comforting to know that most ex Pop Idol / Britain's Got Talent / X-Factor types usually fade into obscurity. A few annoying hangers on do tend to stick around though (Will Young etc)

Strictly Come Dancing can stay, if only for the simple pleasures seeing the female professionals in skimpy outfits.

It's not all bad news for Hairy. Someone at work tells me that C4 are apparently still obligated to two more BBs - one final celebrity one, and one final 'norms' one.

I'm really not sure about how this makes me feel. So much of what made BB great was Channel 4. Davina, the various voices of BB, the tree of temptation, Big Brother's Big Mouth and so on. And so moving to Channel 5, not known for its comedy and originality, means there's every potential for them to completely fuck it up.

Well (if you really did like it, each to their own, I guess), it's made by the exact same people so the only difference would be the host, really.

But man I wish it would just go away.

Oh right. My understanding was that it was an entirely different team put together by Channel 5 as I thought the previous company that produced it were exclusive to Channel 4. I have no evidence to back it up though. In my mind, TV production crews are like football players - you just play for one team.

:)

I think it's owned by Endemol, and the TV channel just buys a series that they produce. Davina McCall has said she won't present it anymore though. I read in the paper today that Ch5 want to take it back to it's original format, with none of the gimmicks that latter serious on Ch4 had.
