Yeah, I guess it is getting a LOT of traffic right about now. Certainly more than Frontier are used to getting. :-)

Surely no reason they couldn't do an XBLA conversion - it'd be a piece of piss !

JimJam; It won't happen until Braben and Bell sort out their differences.

ie, never.

The most recent OLL podcast has a recording of a recent Bafta interview with David Braben, some interesting stuff on Elite in there so far (not finished listening to it yet).

Doesn't seem to be up on their site but you can get it on itunes.

I've still not got to the end, work keeps getting in the way. The Elite 4 info was just "We are working on Elite 4 and I wont release it unless I'm happy"

The interesting Elite 1 stuff was about how the whole galaxy was procedurally generated each time you loaded it up, right down to the names. Which led to one planet or galaxy being named "Arse".

I spent an age trying to make sure my proc gen names didn't come up with something odd. Best one was "Fuxincars prime" LOL. Seriously though, it's a lot of fun coming up with proc gen galaxies, stars, planets and names. I have a few routines I use - Early video from my latest XBLIG game demo's planet and name generation (April 2009) on youtube.

Elite rocks BTW.

Is this the game you have up on Indie games now?

I'm 100% British living in the UK

Rail Gun Charlie is up on Indie Games...

Marketplace

I wrote a game many years ago that once got described as "Elite 2 with Balls" by ST Format Magazine... Atari ST : Zero-5 with a video on youtube

Well, welcome to AATG mate :)

Zero-5 looks really good. "Star Raiders with good graphics" would've sold it to me !

Fancy doing a remake for XBLA ? We're desperately short of space combat.

Hell yeah, now that's something I'd definitely buy

FWIW I had a play with the trial of Rail Gun Charlie and it's pretty damned good. Gets very busy very quickly but as an old-skool shooter fanatic it pressed all the right buttons for me, and would love to see more in that ilk.

But yeah, Star Raiders with balls on the XBIM would be superb!

Hmmm... Perhaps I'll have a go a that then. May be AATG would be interested in running a progress column against the effort? I'd like to keep the "Charles 'Charlie' Chatsworth" character in there. My next game was going to be "Charlie Goes Berzerk!" ...No prizes for guessing what this would be a 3D interpretation of!"

Well Thank you! :)

Comments like this make it feel more worthwhile. I just wish more people like you would post a little more positively on such games - Always easy to criticise and given the pretty poor payback on DLC / Indie, the more good words, the more it will be sustainable and improve (positive feedback loops etc) :)

Heh as the rest of the regulars here will tell you, I can be a cynical old git but praise where praise is due, all the same.

The indie marketplace needs to shrug off its image as "that place where you can get all those fucking stupid massage vibrator things" and get a few more developers on-side who put together superb and robust games for knockdown prices. It's getting better, the latest crop of indie offerings show a marked rise in what people can do with XNA, and the sheer amount of work put into some stuff makes me wish I could string code together better and join 'em.

As far as the developer diary thing goes, we'd love it so yep bring it awwwn.

Any other Elite fans making there way to Nottingham next Wednesday? (28th Oct)

Looks to be a bit good from this itinerary

Oh and the Curry session on the same evening will have the old timers getting all misty eyed. :)
