Not sure how many of you will have picked this up, but I have to say this is one of the best PS3 games of the year.

I loved the previous two titles on the PS3 and so far the new game is even better. 'More of the same' was a criticism levelled at the game by some sites, but Insomniac made the right call in not trying mess with what made R&C popular to start with.

The one major change is in the space flight sections. Gone are the on rails shooting missions as you can now fly freely round each star system. Here you can land on various moons in search of goodies, obtain side missions from passing ships and still get involved in the odd space battle!

I've barely scratched the surface of the game so far, but I would heartily recommend it to any PS3 owner.

The demo put me off it to be honest. It felt so soulless.

I hadn't played a R&C game until I got a PS3. What I like most is that there is more emphasis on shooting rather than platforming. The gameplay is also challenging without being frustrating. Always a plus point in my book.

I think the presentation is great too. The graphics are fantastic and I really like the quirky humour.

I've been holding out on getting this till it's a bit cheaper. Still haven't completed the last PS3 R & C game, but do remember it being pretty excellent for the most part.

It is just as good as the first PS3 game Peej and well worth buying at full price since there is so much to do.

Really love R&C, but I just can't bring myself to shell out nearly £40 for it - especially seeing the huge bargains now filtering through for other recent PS3 releases.

Best price I can find is £34.85 at ShopTo.net

Thinking of getting this, but my only experience of the series so far is the utterly terrible 'Size Matters' on the PSP. Would I be right in thinking that this plays very similarly to that?

I have to say I also got more laughs and fun out of 20 minutes of Daxter so far than I did the entire of 'Size Matters', maybe this series just isn't for me.

After Quest for Booty, it all felt a bit too much the same old same old when I tried the demo, I'll try to pick it up cheap at some point though. I bloody loved R&C Future, hoped this would be as good.

The PSP one was farmed out to a different developer, High Impact IIRC. They didn't do a great job of it. The online multiplayer was tolerable, if you could find anyone to play against.

Ahh, thank you Hughes - sounds like it could be worth a look anyway, even if I didn't get on with the PSP version!

Is the PSP version really that bad? I think I created a thread on it here a while back, but never actually played it.

Not sure, to be honest it did really well over at Metacritic but it did absolutely nothing at all for me. The dialogue and humour left a lot to be desired, and the gameplay was completely uninspired with some fairly clunky controls in places.

I gave up on it when I hit a huge difficulty spike with one of the bosses to be honest, it was a breeze up until that point, but I was almost glad that it gave me a good excuse to give up and move onto something different (in this case it was Daxter)

I gave it a fairly positive review which means either I liked it or I was pretending to like it. I'm guessing the latter.

I really enjoyed Daxter and thought SM would be more of the same goodness. Only really asking because I've still got a PSPGo voucher to use on 3 games (out of 17), and R&C was one I was thinking of getting. I'll avoid it now though.

Edit: Hmm, actually it is amongst the highest-rated PSP games. Still can't decide if it's worth a try!

If there's a demo I'd try it first. I'm sure you'd like it to be fair, it's just not for me.

If you have a free game voucher I'd go for Half Minute Hero, Metal Gear Solid, Jeanne D'Arc, Phantom Brave and God of War probably... Most of the other stuff isn't even worth looking at from what I've seen so far :(

edit: apologies for the uber de-rail above by the way, argh

The voucher's only valid for about 17 old-ish games (many of which I've already played) unfortunately, which is why I haven't yet bothered with it. I'm definitely looking to pick up Jeanne d'Arc at some point though, if I switch to the US store (it's not available here in the UK).

Is that your definitive list of good PSP games, then? No mention of Disgaea? :)

Edit: Hang on, Phantom Brave is PS2 only isn't it?

Eeek! I meant Brave Story sorry, not Phantom Brave!

And yup that'd pretty much be my definitive list unfortunately, I loved the original Disgaea (think I gave it a 10/10 on my EG rating) but I think it's aged quite badly to be honest, the gameplay.

So what's so special about Brave Story, then? From the wiki it just seems like a typical JRPG complete with usual genre foibles.

And I'd happily post an extensive list of all the PSP games I've enjoyed over the years, but I wouldn't want to derail the thread even further. :)

BlizeH, I can hook you up with my review copy, if you want, on an extended borrow or temporary swapsie, or something. It's got working trophies and stuff, so.

@ Kay - it was just a really nice JRPG with nice graphics and a ridiculous amount of polish, although I am a sucker for those kind of things unfortunately. A very solid and enjoyable game though.

@ NY - thank you so much for the offer, but unfortunately I bought quite quickly on impulse from Shopto after Hughes' comment about the PSP version being farmed out! Cheers though, you are awesome.
