Downloaded. I'll listen to it tonight. :D |

Not a vid then. Darn, was interested to put a "face" to the voice. |

Just had a quick listen. Were you after some constructive criticism then? Warning - I can be quite harsh. :) |

Sure, hit me :) It's not my dream to become a comedian, so you won't be crushing it :D I've already submitted it and I don't think you'll be any worse than the panel of comedians who ripped on me (that's a fun listen). |

Okay - your voice is fine (took me a while to get used to it, though), but the delivery seemed a little unnatural. Stilted, even, and monotonous at times. As for the material - good start there with the dig at talent shows. The actual material was good, imo, but just stopped short of being 'lol!' funny (I think the delivery had a lot to do with that). The very last bit was good, made me laugh. Not surprising at all really, we've always known you're a funny guy - just need to enliven it up a bit. :) Shit, I'm not exactly a comedian myself and yet here I am sounding like Simon fucking Cowell. Sorry. |

Kay said:Shit, I'm not exactly a comedian myself and yet here I am sounding like Simon fucking Cowell. Sorry. Don't worry, Simon Cowell can't sing :) I think delivery is my handicap, and I do blame my accent. I'd have to fake a friendlier, more distinct accent in order to have a better delivery. As I am, I've got to stick to essay/deadpan. Also remember I recorded it alone, so it's hard to sound conversational. :D Not trying to sound defensive - I totally agree with you :) As for how "lol" funny it was, I think really funny stuff will make you laugh when you're alone, but most stuff won't. I'm not saying you'd laugh if in a group, but I certainly wouldn't expect anybody to laugh out loud at that on their own. I'll let the second file speak for itself when it goes up. Anyone who wants to hear me thrown to the wolves will be very pleased :) |

You sound a bit like Kurt from Glee :D |

Aww (see how I love reading that) :) I really don't, but I wish I did! |

I agree with all your points, NY. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that a lot of stand-up really doesn't do much for me - it's usually entertaining and chucklesome, but rarely ever 'laugh out loud' funny (and I find it weird that crowds often do so). Or maybe it's just my sense of humour. I appreciate good comedy and witticisms, but I also tend to find humour in the silliest things (for example - every single game at some point has made me laugh, no matter how serious it is. Probably the main reason I play them, actually - I particularly like to take the piss out their (usually technical) shortcomings). So there's nothing wrong with your material - if that was in a stand-up show with a good crowd and more relaxed delivery, it would definitely work. I've seen audiences laugh at far worse. :) |

Wow, completely different voice to the one I used to imagine. I have to agree that the delivery might need a bit of tweaking. Were you moving away from the mike at times? I was wondering how you actually delivered it. If you were sitting whilst delivering the material, would it change the dynamism if you got up and walked around whilst talking? Might enable you to interact more with an imagined audience? Of course this advice falls flat on it's face if that's what you were already doing... sorry, I'm not much use |

Yeah, I do think I'd get some energy going if I paced back and forth. I might try that if I do another submission. I wonder if imagining an audience would make me more nervous. Maybe I should imagine them in their underwear :) Another problem is I'm submitting to Americans, so I'm very cautious with speaking clearly, because we understand them way better than they understand us :) |

I thought it was pretty good York - I think the only criticism I would have is that it didn't quite sound natural enough. I suspect this is down to delivering it to an empty room, so you weren't talking like you were talking to an audience, more like you were remembering a speech. Know what I mean ? |

You sound nothing like I thought you did, but then I read everything in my own voice in my head except for Hairy's. I reeed that like ahm frum oop Noorth. :P |

Your voice isn't that high-pitched NY, I don't know what they're talking about. You just sounded normal to me. |
|||
| |||
Oh, I don't particularly mind! If I were some macho hetero dude, I might be offended :D I'm quite self-hating, but my voice I adore. If it weren't me, I'd fancy whoever had that voice :) |

I'm the opposite. I'm repulsed by my own voice and accent. |

"your voice reminds me of salad fingers" :-D |

Wait, hold on. They are comedians? Those? I thought comedians were meant to be funny. Are they all twelve? |
