As some of you know, my PS3 has been out of action for a year, gathering dust. For some reason last year I played about 2 / 3 games on the 360 in total - I lost my gaming mojo. It seems to be back with a vengeance right now as I've already caned several games this year. With God of War 3 coming out, Heavy Rain being of interest and possibly FFXIII, I decided I needed to sort out the PS3. When I found Demon's Souls in the gaming shop I go to, I snapped it up and brough the PS3 in. We'd already removed 3 discs from the drive at home (thanks, Leo - my younger - so that's where Halo 3 is, and Devil May Cry). But it wouldn't boot properly. Anyway, the guy in the shop fixed it in - almost literally - 3 minutes. Which left me part pleased, part embarrassed. So, all this rambling leads me back to the question - anything I might have missed from 2009 and 2010 so far that I ought to check out? Give us your recommendations - thanks! |

Flower and PixelJunk Shooter are two good PSN titles, and obviously Uncharted 2. |

You might also want to consider Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time and God of War Collection (GoW 1 & 2) |

Uncharted 2 Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time Wipeout HD Fury Killzone 2 Infamous |

Thanks for the ideas chaps. Somehow Uncharted 2 isn't enticing me - am I insane? I found the first remotely enjoyable but not a hugely memorable experience; I assume the sequel is much better. Flower I'll definitely check out; the GoW collection is on my list as I never played the second. Interesting that there have been a couple of recommendations for Ratchet and Clank; that might appeal to my older son too. Infamous is the one that's really intriguing me - what's good about it Sil? Afaik, it's another sandbox open worlder; what makes it stand out? |

It's quite difficult to articulate what makes it so good, but it takes all of the good bits of Drake's Fortune and adds a massive degree of polish. The annoying shooty bits are vastly improved making the whole experience much more enjoyable. Furthermore, there are some phenomenal set pieces. It just feels like Naughty Dog immediately knew how good this game was and this confidence shines through... |

That - the bolded bit - is enough to make me more interested; I think the shooting (whule not terrible) annoyed me more than any other element. The potential for greatness was there, so the thought of them firing on all cylinders in the sequel and just "getting it right" is certainly appealing. |

Think of Crackdown with much better graphics, a proper story, varied missions and much improved climbing. Instead of guns you have the power to control electricity and use it to create destruction on a quite impressive scale ;-) Also as you play through the game you get the choice to be a good guy or a bad guy, which varies the powers you have access to. There is a demo on PSN so give it a whirl. I'm sure you will love it and now the game has been released on Platinum you can pick it up on the cheap. And Flex just buy Uncharted 2. You won't be disappointed as it is a simply stunning game. |

There's now a demo of Uncharted 2 up, too, if you need convincing :) |
|||

Wow, that was timely. At least the two PS3 owners that didn't pick it up on release have got something to sway 'em a little. /marvels at Sony's Demo strategy |
|||
| |||
Maybe it's a really crappy demo :) |
|||

I wouldn't be surprised. They've probably got you playing the sucky bit in the ice caves. |
|||
| |||
Riiight. You're not making it any more attractive ;-) |
|||
| |||
Believe me, although I said they're sucky, they're still acres better than most of the "end" bits in the first game. |

BTW speaking of demos, the God of War demo is wholly unrepresentative of the quality of the finished game. The finished game makes the demo look like a Wii game. I'm not used to seeing "this isn't indicative of the quality of the final product" and it actually being true, but in this case it's true. /picks jaw up off the floor for the 7th time while playing |
