Enjoying the hell out of this so far. Loads of speed, superb track designs and that weird mario-kart-esque sense that being a good driver isn't enough to win when you've got everyone throwing just about everything at you at every moment during a race.

BTW I've got a couple of spare beta keys if anyone wants them. phil at all about the games dot co dot uk

Should add that the codes are just Xbox 360. A bit annoying that the PS3 version isn't being beta trialed like this. Grr.

OK spin I'll sling you the details.

Any chance I can have one please? I have no idea what these 'beta codes' are exactly, but I really enjoyed PGR4 so I'd like to give this a try. :)

Agh sorry all gone though anyone else on the Blur beta should have spare keys so if you're one of 'em, share and share with other AATGers, you know it makes sense :)

Kay, if no one coughs up and I can get more I'll make sure you're first in line.

No worries.

So how does it work exactly, you input the code and then get to download a special demo version of the game?

You have to register at the beta site and input a beta code, then you get an Xbox Live code to put into the "redeem code" part of the Marketplace.

You then get a multiplayer beta version of the game (which seems pretty full-on, and there's plenty of tracks and content in there - as far as I can see from a few goes, you get everything bar the achievements :)

It's great though, the sort of game you can dive into for a few minutes for a bit of a multiplayer bash - or spend ages in trying to win enough "fans" to get your next car or set of upgrades.

Enjoying it immensely though. I can understand the constant comparisons to Mario Kart - it's the same sort of racing, where an unfortunate instance with a power-up can cost you the entire race

Well i have got mine all registered and setup in my download queue. How do i get more beta codes for people ?

Please don't say it involves using the Activision website again, it was horrible. Brought Firefox to its knees, it stole all the available processing power going.

Nope I think you get sent them after a couple of days of play.

So you will get 'em sent automatically to the email addy you registered with.

If any of you fancy a bit of online stuff tonight I'm up for it

Enjoying the beta much more than I thought I would now I have a few games under my belt and have got used to the controls, power ups and tracks.

Wasn't going to bother picking this one up at all but my interest levels are definitely increasing.

Woah! Bizarre have come good again; this is fantastic! Not sure how well the singleplayer game will work, as races can feel a little unfair at times, but the multiplayer is sublime. Win or lose doesn't really matter when you're having this much fun.

Played a bit more over the weekend. I also wonder how this is going to play in single-player though I guess if you're playing to win and unlock cars and mods, it might have some legs.

Multiplayer though, is fantastic. The real unpredictability of each race keeps it fresh and vibrant. It's also good fun seeing if your name comes up at the end in any of the "special" categories after each race.

Sublime. Hope the beta continues till day of release. Really want to play a lot more of this.

I went back and read the Blur article in Edge 202 last night; at the time, Bizarre were really talking the single player experience up too. I don't know if this is still the case though.

Frankly, I'm astounded by the level of polish in the demo; the frame rate is rock solid, there's no tearing and the neon effects are beautiful. Puts other developer to shame really.

The only real criticism I have (and the one that I fed back to Bizarre via their survey) is that once you've got the lead, it's not that difficult to stay there. Like Flatout:UC, the middle of the pack is utter chaos and breaking free of it to challenge for the lead is quite tricky. There's only one weapon that specifically targets the leader (Shock) and it's fairly easy to avoid. Not only that, but it hangs about on the track for quite a while and can prove just as much of an obstacle for the chasers, especially if they're still battling each other.

Of course, a killer weapon that targeted the leader and was virtually impossible to avoid would be pretty frustrating if you were the one in first place...

I think it's down to the individual player though - Being pole, or first out of the first corner is still no guarantee that you'll be able to stay there. I took my attention off the road ahead for a microsecond while I had a very good lead - my car span out, and it took me vital seconds to get back on the track and pointing in the right direction. By then though I'd dropped to 7th of a pack of 12.

So I guess as players get to learn the tracks and stuff, it'll change but I reckon if the game's good enough at matching ability for ability and properly matchmaking similarly ranked players, it'll be exceptional.

It's very polished though and it shows exactly where Need for Speed has been going wrong for so long. Get a decent developer who can build racers, and get them to concentrate on setting up a decent selection of single tracks rather than buggering the whole thing up trying to build massive and boring sandbox cities full of nothing, and you've got a surefire hit on your hands. Hopefully Criterion will be taking note for their NFS offering because they really have got a job on their hands bringing the title back up to speed (hah) if they try and follow the design of the last few games (Shift notwithstanding)

Still absolutely loving this, although having maxed out my fans at level 10, there's slightly less of an incentive to perform...

Granted, but take a note of the finishing times after the race; often it seems that the lead car is a significant distance ahead of the rest of the pack. I do think it needs a bigger blue shell.

Not received any invites yet either. I was really hoping to pass one onto a mate of mine who would absolutely love this (and is sick of me going on about it) and put the rest on here...

One thing I noticed last night was that a few bugs have crept in. Track voting seemed to be ignored in most of the rounds I played - and if someone chose the same track as the previous race, it was ignored and a random one was played instead - yet that was often repeated with no chance to vote on it after the race.

Very confusing.

Haven't had my stats reset but I hit the cap last night (level 10 I think) and I don't think it really offers much of an advantage other than unlocking some of the extra modes and a few new cars (most of which seem to be no quicker than the base models).

It's fun though. Really looking forward to playing the full version.

Beetlebum
What you've done
She's a gun
Now what you've done
Beetlebum
Get nothing done
You beetlebum just get numb
Now what you've done
Beetlebum

(Chorus)
And when she lets me slip away
She turns me on all my violence is gone
Nothing is wrong
I just slip away and I am gone
Nothing is wrong
She turns me on
I just slip away and I am gone

Beetlebum
Because you're young
She's a gun
Now what you've done
Beetlebum
She'll suck your thumb
She'll make you come
Coz, she's your gun
Now what you've done
Beetlebum

Game, Gameplay and Gamestation have taken Blur off their site.

Seems like they are having a spat with Activision?

Does anyone know any more?

It seems that Game etc. will honour preorders.

Maybe it is a trade price thing or a spat about preowned. Who knows?

Had a go on this last night and its WAY better than the beta. The cars actually feel enjoyable to drive, although using a Camero and a Dodge Challenger I'm not best placed to comment on how they handled.

Loved blowing up a vintage Beetle to my gf's horror.

I thought it would come out rather poor compared to S/S, but whilst they're actually quite different games, they are alot closer than I thought.

I really enjoyed it. Had a couple of hours on it last night and had a little smile about the fact that you can race cars on Brighton Prom :)

I like Blur's slightly weird and cartoonish sense of alternate reality. You get real world cars and locations but placed in a slightly surreal game world of floating powerups and Kart-game-like handling but at the core of the game you can tell it's a Bizarre Creations game. Fame replaces Kudos quite nicely, the unlockables feel like you've earned them (it's quite surprising how quickly the difficulty level starts to steeply climb once you've got past the first challenger but it never feels unfairly punishing).

As Furbs said, it's an entirely different type of game to Split/Second but it reeks of quality.

Can't wait to get a bit more time online as that was superb fun in the Beta. Anyone else here planning on grabbing it?
